Type: 3-year Contract with two 1-year extensions (totaling 5 years) Full Time or Part Time: Full-Time Pay Rate: $55.46 - $73.94 per hour Location: San Antonio, Texas – Onsite Multiple locations within 15 miles of the zip code 78207 Language Requirements: Write, read, and speak English Language Preferences: Write, read, and speak Spanish Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Writer II to develop, edit, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation within a large, complex organization. This role is responsible for producing clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation that supports operational processes, technology systems, regulatory compliance, safety procedures, and enterprise initiatives. The Technical Writer II collaborates with subject-matter experts, technical teams, compliance staff, and operational departments to translate complex technical information into accessible materials for internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong writing expertise, analytical thinking, document control proficiency, and the ability to manage multiple documentation projects in a structured and deadline-driven environment. Experience Requirements Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive experience in technical writing, documentation management, or related communications roles Demonstrated experience developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, manuals, process documentation, and technical reports Experience translating complex technical, operational, or regulatory information into clear and concise documentation Strong knowledge of document lifecycle management, version control, and quality assurance practices Experience collaborating with IT, engineering, operations, compliance, or project management teams Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and document management systems Experience creating process maps, workflow diagrams, and visual documentation aids Ability to review and edit documentation for clarity, consistency, compliance, and accuracy Experience supporting regulatory, audit, or compliance documentation requirements Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple concurrent documentation projects Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience Preferences Experience within a public-sector, governmental, transportation, or highly regulated environment Familiarity with transit operations, safety protocols, infrastructure projects, or enterprise IT systems Experience supporting system implementations or large-scale organizational initiatives Experience using content management systems (CMS) or collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Teams) Certification in technical writing or professional communication (preferred) Experience incorporating accessibility standards and plain language best practices Physical Requirements Ability to work at a computer for extended periods Ability to review detailed technical documentation for sustained periods Minimal physical exertion Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Communications, Journalism, Information Systems, or a related field Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills Education Preferences Advanced certification in Technical Writing or Professional Communication Master’s degree in Technical Communication, Information Design, or related field Continuing education in regulatory compliance documentation, process improvement, or content strategy Specialized training in documentation standards, accessibility compliance, or enterprise systems Training Schedule: TBD Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (CST).
