General Description Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries.
Performs complex legal secretarial work in support of the Office of Administrative Hearings. Performs a wide range of complex tasks and maintains confidentiality of sensitive correspondence and communications. Work requires contact with high-level executives, attorneys, governmental agencies, and officials. Creates and maintains case files, office calendar and databases; performs legal administrative support work such as preparing and editing correspondence, reports, forms, and documents; logging and tracking case statuses and deadlines; compiling statistical data; creating reports; scheduling and coordinating meetings and hearings; responding to written and oral inquiries. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Duties
Provides information in response to procedural requests, correspondence, and oral inquiries.
Prepares, proofreads, and edits legal and administrative documents and reports.
Composes, edits, and reviews correspondence, memoranda, and miscellaneous reports.
Compiles and enters statistical data for Office of Administrative Hearings reports, charts, graphs, databases, summaries, or case status updates.
Organizes, indexes, and files legal and administrative documents.
Schedules and coordinates travel. Schedules use of fleet vehicles and maintains records. Provides logistical support for interviews, meetings, and court hearings.
Monitors inventory, drafts requisitions, and tracks purchase orders.
Monitors deadlines. Maintains and updates appointment calendars.
Checks citations, quotations, footnotes, and references for accuracy as needed.
Maintains assorted logs, manuals, notebooks, and other records.
Implements and oversees record retention in accordance with Departmental policies.
Reviews and processes mail for legal staff.
Answers phone and provides general information or routes calls as appropriate.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Requirements
Associate degree or equivalent college education course work plus two (2) years' experience in legal support work. Additional work-related experience may be substituted for college education on a year per year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.

If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
