Position Summary The Benefit Consultant serves as a subject‑matter expert in employee benefits, providing strategic guidance, individualized counseling, and clear communication to support employees in understanding and maximizing their health, retirement, and wellness options. This role is responsible for educating employees, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements, and delivering exceptional service throughout the entire benefits lifecycle—from onboarding to retirement.

Key Responsibilities Consultation – 40%

Clearly explain all available benefit plans, including health, wellness, retirement, and voluntary options, using language that is accessible and easy for employees to understand.

Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and provide comprehensive overviews that support informed decision making.

Lead group presentations or workshops to enhance campuswide understanding of benefit offerings and updates.

Deliver individualized, one‑on‑one consultations to help employees evaluate and select benefit packages aligned with their personal needs, financial goals, and life circumstances.

Provide retirement planning support, including guidance on state retirement programs, financial readiness, and timeline considerations.

Assist employees with navigating complex benefit questions and recommend resources to support well‑being and financial security.

Enrollments & Changes – 30%

Assist employees with open enrollment processes, ensuring timely and accurate completion of benefit selections.

Support qualifying life events (QLE) changes by guiding employees through documentation requirements, deadlines, and system updates.

Coordinate with HRIS and vendor platforms to verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

Compliance & Accuracy – 15%

Ensure all benefit transactions adhere to institutional policies and applicable regulations (e.g., ACA, UTCARE, Medicare).

Maintain accurate records, audit benefit data, and proactively identify compliance risks or errors.

Stay informed of regulatory changes and communicate impacts to HR leadership and employees.

Communication – 15%

Develop clear, user‑friendly benefit materials, including guides, FAQs, presentations, and resource tools.

Translate complex benefit information into accessible content.

Support communication campaigns that increase employee engagement, understanding, and participation in benefit programs.

Qualifications Required Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

5+ years of direct experience providing strategic benefits consultation and guidance to employees and organizational leadership; 3+ years providing advice on complex benefits matters, regulatory requirements, and plan options; strong working knowledge of employee benefit programs, retirement plans, and regulatory requirements; experience with HR information systems (HRIS) and benefits platforms; experience in delivering employee counseling, education, or program support.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience supporting or delivering services within a higher education institution.

Experience supporting benefits administration within the University of Texas System in a benefits consulting capacity.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Experience facilitating group sessions, workshops, or webinars.
