Job Summary Chartwells K12 is seeking a motivated, passionate, and experienced Director of Nutrition and Wellness (Registered Dietitian) to join the leadership team at its largest client, Duval County Public Schools. This role will lead the wellness department while collaborating with operators on strengthening the culture of helping kids stay happy & healthy.
The Director of Nutrition and Wellness will be the owner of the menu development, responsible for the compliance of USDA K12 nutrition guidelines and with respect of the client expectations. The role works closely with the Executive Chef and Supply Chain department to identify compliant and innovative menu items, develop new recipes, and build cycle menus that will drive student participation. The Director also participates in senior leadership meetings, educates internal teams on risk management of food allergies and special diets, conducts on‑site visits for quality control, engages with students, and assesses programming opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Understands and promotes company food philosophy, sustainability commitments, and nutrition programs.
Develops, implements, and tracks effectiveness of corporate nutrition and wellness programs, considering dietary recommendations, trends, account profiles, and client needs.
Leads team projects related to the growth of nutrition and health.
Educates internal teams on company protocols for risk management of food allergies and special diets.
Conducts site visits for quality control of the nutritional program, overall standards, and on‑site programming.
Qualifications
Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) – required. Licensed by the State Dietetics Licensing Board in applicable states – required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of dietitian professional work experience – required. Contract food service, schools, college, and business environments preferred.
General hospitality knowledge and interest in sustainability and sustainable food practices.
Food Service Management Experience – required.
Strong public speaking skills and ability to plan and deliver audience‑appropriate presentations for guests, clients, internal teams, or potential clients.
