Position is responsible for preparing the surface of the forged parts according to work instructions, shop orders, or customer specifications. Essential Functions: Prepare and/or polish the surface of forged aluminum parts using a combination of powered hand tools or polishing machines; Set up polisher using correct belt and dressing wheels to ensure quality polishing; Understand the different polishing belts and wheels to obtain proper finish on part; Ensure part is properly polished to meet quality requirements; Inspect part before and after grinding; Identify defects/non-conforming marks in the forged parts and how to remove the defect or mark through polishing; Gauge polished parts to ensure polished part remains within customer requirements; Understand alloys and different polishing finishes for the parts; Work from production order, shop order, and/or direction of supervisor; Follow work instructions on part polishing; Identify issues with the equipment and notify supervisor and/or maintenance; Maintain daily timekeeping and logging in and out of jobs on computer system; Understand how to keep count of the parts and when to place parts on belt; Complete appropriate paperwork such as daily checklists, routing sign offs, etc. Maintain all necessary equipment and tools; ensure work area is clean and secure; Follow all safety standards; Inspect work upon completion to ensure product meets or exceeds quality expectations; Assist and support other Polishers as needed; Report unusual or unsafe conditions to supervisor; Notify Quality of quality issues; Identify problems and provide suggestions for improvement; Actively participate in efforts to establish and promote a safe and healthy work environment. Follow policies, programs, and procedures for the reduction and elimination of industrial accidents and provide quality feedback to promote safer work behaviors and conditions Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED; No experience necessary Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to use a gauge, pencil grinder, and polishing wheels; Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions; Ability to work under pressure and adhere to schedules; Ability to operate hand tools such as spray gun and forge tongs; Ability to work safely and keep area clean; Demonstrated ability to work well with all levels of the organization; Good verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills; Ability to work assigned shift and remain awake and alert during assigned shift is required; Reporting to work for assigned shift, maintaining a physical presence and performing assigned work for the duration of assigned shift is required; Able to communicate clearly, concisely and achieve intended objectives; Ability to work in a variety of environments which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise, and all weather conditions. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand for an 8 hour shift. Position requires frequent twisting, turning, reaching, bending, pulling and pushing. Position occasionally requires walking, climbing, stooping, and crouching. The employee must be able to handle up to 60 lbs on a regular basis throughout the 8 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
