Position Summary The Steel Sales Representative is responsible for driving revenue growth within the Steel Division by expanding outbound steel freight from existing customers, developing new customer relationships, and maximizing trailer and lane capacity utilization.
This role carries dual responsibility for commercial growth and operational fluency, requiring hands‑on learning of steel transportation operations while building and managing a sustainable sales pipeline.
This position is critical to preparing the Steel Division for scalable growth, stronger customer penetration, and improved capacity optimization.
Key Responsibilities Sales and Business Development
Expand outbound steel loads with existing customers by identifying new lanes, volumes, and long‑term shipping opportunities.
Develop and execute a targeted sales strategy focused on steel producers, service centers, and end users.
Build and manage a qualified sales pipeline that supports consistent revenue growth.
Onboard new customers, ensuring alignment with operational capabilities and service standards.
Negotiate pricing, contract terms, and service agreements in coordination with leadership.
Maintain accurate sales activity, forecasts, and customer data in CRM systems.
Capacity Optimization and Revenue Growth
Work closely with operations to maximize trailer utilization and balance inbound and outbound steel freight.
Identify opportunities to reduce deadhead and improve network efficiency through strategic customer development.
Align sales commitments with available capacity and operational constraints.
Support margin improvement initiatives through smart lane development and customer mix.
Operations and Industry Learning
Learn steel transportation operations, including loading requirements, safety protocols, equipment needs, and customer service expectations.
Develop working knowledge of steel industry logistics, shipping patterns, and customer demand cycles.
Collaborate with dispatch, operations, and safety teams to ensure customer commitments are operationally executable.
Participate in continuous improvement discussions related to service quality and scalability.
Customer Relationship Management
Serve as the primary commercial contact for assigned steel customers.
Build long‑term relationships based on reliability, communication, and problem solving.
Address customer concerns in coordination with operations to ensure retention and satisfaction.
Represent the company as a trusted logistics partner within the steel market.
Qualifications Required
Experience in B2B sales, transportation sales, or steel industry–related sales.
Strong business development and relationship‑building skills.
Ability to learn and understand transportation operations and capacity management.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
