Assistant Director of Production

for the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Reporting to the Director of Digital Advertising and Media, the Assistant Director of Production is responsible for supporting and advancing the Division of Advancement’s communications strategy with a primary focus on photography and video production in support of fundraising, alumni and donor engagement, stewardship, and student engagement.

This role will lead the creation of high‑quality visual storytelling that strengthens the university’s brand and reputation.

Responsibilities Video and Photography Production:

Leads the conceptualization, scripting, storyboarding, production, and post‑production of video projects supporting Advancement priorities. Plans, directs, and produces photography for Advancement initiatives, ensuring cohesive and compelling visual storytelling across platforms. Supports visual media production for the It Takes a Volunteer comprehensive fundraising campaign, developing campaign‑driven video and photography assets across platforms.

Production Planning and Asset Management:

Advises partners on visual approach, production feasibility, and best practices to ensure strong creative outcomes within scope and resources. Helps plan and execute coordinated, cross‑platform visual content strategies aligned with fundraising and engagement goals. Supports production planning workflows, timelines, and project coordination in partnership with the Project Management and Communications teams. Participates in integrated communications planning to align visual storytelling with broader campaign and content strategies. Oversees media organization, file delivery, and archival processes to ensure efficient storage, retrieval, and long‑term asset management. Maintains and manages video and photography equipment, contributing to infrastructure planning, maintenance, and upgrades to improve efficiency and longevity.

Qualifications Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree

3+ years of professional experience with demonstrated responsibility in video production or photography. 1+ years of professional experience with Master’s degree

Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to manage production at any scale

Excellent photography and videography

Experience with post‑production tools; ability to communicate insights clearly to non‑technical partners

A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required due to travel responsibilities of the position. UTFI reserves the right to consider all appropriate circumstances. In general, any significant driving offense less than 12 months old will eliminate the application from consideration for the position.

Note – Candidates holding a graduate degree must have at least 1 year of experience.
