A Day in the Life of the Executive Director of Childcare
In this role, you’ll provide strategic and operational leadership for all of the childcare services, ensuring safe, high-quality, and impactful programs for children and families. You’ll collaborate with branch leaders, community partners, and funders while developing staff, strengthening systems, and expanding programs that support the organization's mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic leadership for all childcare services, including school-age childcare, camps, grant-funded programs, and child safety initiatives
- Coach and support key leaders and program leaders to ensure strong operations, quality standards, and YMCA best practices
- Ensure compliance with all state regulations, licensing requirements, and safety protocols across all childcare sites
- Develop and lead training and leadership development programs for childcare staff, including child abuse prevention and risk management
- Oversee grant administration, reporting, and compliance, including LEAPs and DSS reimbursement programs
- Partner with finance to set rates, manage invoicing, monitor collections, and ensure fiscal sustainability
- Build and expand corporate childcare partnerships throughout the GLOW service area
- Monitor budgets and monthly financial reports to meet revenue goals and control expenses
- Evaluate program effectiveness using feedback from staff, families, schools, and community partners
- Strengthen collaboration across Genesee, Orleans, and Wyoming branches to support a unified culture
- Represent the YMCA through community relationships, events, and partnerships
- Take a leadership role in the Annual Campaign, including volunteer recruitment and fundraising support
- Participate in association-wide initiatives, committees, and special events as needed
- Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the CEO
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional experience in a childcare or youth development leadership role
- Strong knowledge of childcare regulations, safety standards, and best practices
- Experience with budgeting, financial management, and grant administration
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences
- Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and team development skills
- Ability to build community partnerships and professional networks
- Willingness to obtain and maintain required YMCA and role-specific certifications
- Ability to travel and do regular onsite visits to multiple locations
