Senior Director of Youth & Teen Services
to lead high-quality youth development, academic, enrichment, and community partnership programs. This role oversees multiple school-based and community-based initiatives, ensures operational and safety standards, manages budgets, and supports strong staff performance. Reporting to the Associate Executive Director, this position supervises all Youth & Teen programs, including camps, after school programs, Beacon Center operations, workforce development initiatives, alternative education programs, sports, and teen services Job Duty Categories 1. Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight Provide vision and strategic direction for Youth & Teen Services. Ensure programs align with YMCA goals and partner school priorities. Use data, evaluation, and community needs assessments to guide program improvements. Maintain full compliance with YMCA, DCYF, and ExCEL policies. Develop and manage annual budgets, contracts, and MOUs. Recruit and coordinate community partners to support youth and families. 2. Program Quality, Outcomes & Evaluation Establish annual program goals, objectives, and evaluation measures. Oversee continuous program evaluation and integrate findings into improvement plans. Lead preparation of reports for funders and partners. Maintain accurate program records and documentation. Support resource development, including grants and in-kind support. 3. Management of Core Programs Oversight includes: Summer Day Camp Red Bridge HEPA & After School Program MLK Beacon Center at MLK Jr. Academic Middle School Pathways & Partnerships at Burton High School Teen Center Bayview Y Sports Programs Bayview Safety Swim & Splash Collaboration Responsibilities: Ensure each program implements safe, inclusive, structured, and enrichment-focused learning experiences. Align academic support strategies with school-day priorities. Support implementation of STEAM, HEPA, service-learning, leadership development, and recreation programs. 4. Staff Supervision & Professional Development Supervise site directors, coordinators, consultants, and volunteers. Facilitate all-staff meetings, training weeks, and professional development sessions. Support staff via annual workplans, performance reviews, and coaching. Oversee hiring, training, and supervision of employees and volunteers. Stay current on youth development and education best practices. Lead the Strength in Community (SIC) leadership team. Develop SIC goals and action plans; ensure regular progress monitoring. Participate in senior and branch leadership teams. Contribute to committees, events, and organizational initiatives. 6. Community, Family & School Partnerships Oversee outreach to youth and families and develop related materials. Maintain strong relationships with SFUSD schools, ExCEL, DCYF, and community organizations. Support engagement, recruitment, and communication strategies. Coordinate transportation and equipment needs for applicable programs. 7. ExCEL Program Director Responsibilities Ensure compliance with ExCEL safety, attendance, and quality standards. Attend required program manager and director meetings. 8. General & Organizational Responsibilities Represent YMCA programs at community events and meetings. Complete required safety training and certifications. Follow YMCA policies related to safety, supervision, reporting, and risk management. Demonstrate YMCA core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree + 4 years’ experience OR 8 years of related professional and community experience. Experience with youth development program design, curriculum, and evaluation. Experience with fundraising or grant management. Ability to work effectively with diverse communities. Knowledge of school-based programming and community partnerships. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Preferred Master’s degree in a related field. Work Environment & Physical Demands This role operates in a
dynamic, multi-site environment , including schools, community centers, outdoor program spaces, and office settings. The position requires
regular travel between program sites , sometimes multiple locations in a single day. Work involves regular interaction with
youth, families, school staff, community partners, and YMCA team members . The schedule may include
occasional evenings and weekends
to support programs, events, or meetings. The environment may include
moderate noise levels , such as active youth programs, recreational activities, and community events. The role requires maintaining
professional boundaries and adherence to safety, risk management, and mandated reporting policies
at all times. Physical Demands Must be able to
move between various indoor and outdoor program spaces , including walking across school campuses and community sites. Must be able to
lift or carry program materials or equipment , typically up to
25 pounds . Requires the ability to
stand, walk, sit, bend, and reach
as part of routine program and administrative duties. Must have sufficient
vision, hearing, and communication ability
to supervise programs, observe safety concerns, and engage with youth and staff. Occasional participation in
youth activities , field trips, events, or outdoor programs may be required. Must be able to
use a computer and office equipment
for extended periods to complete administrative tasks. Must meet all
health and safety requirements , including background checks, TB/health clearance, and other licensing requirements for programs serving minors.
