
The Marketing and Communications Manager leads Covenant House Alaska’s communications and public relations efforts to increase awareness, engagement, and fundraising support among donors, media, and the community. This role oversees the creation and distribution of all digital and print communications, including social media and media relations, and manages public outreach to educate the community about CHA’s programs and services. The Marketing and Communications Manager is also responsible for maintaining internal communications, including company intranet content.
Essential Functions
Lead the development and implementation of Covenant House Alaska’s external and internal communication strategies, including media/public relations, marketing, general communications and employee-focused communications.
Create and execute an annual integrated communications plan for both external and internal Covenant House Alaska audiences.
Create (capture and edit) or produce all photo and video content f or the general creative needs of the Development Team including but not limited to; events, social media, donations, donor visits, etc
Create and distribute compelling content and promotional materials for digital and print platforms, including annual report, newsletters, press releases, website updates, regular email communications, and social media.
Update and manage Covenant House Alaska social media accounts and website, ensuing up-to-date and engaging content
Build overall number of CHAK followers (website/email/social media)
Participate in overall planning and execution of CHA individual and major gift fundraising, including developing marketing materials and donor communications.
Assist with promoting the annual Sleep Out fundraising event and communicating to participants
Design and manage online peer-to-peer fundraising activities/campaigns
Build and maintain relationships with media and manage all media requests and activities.
Develop internal newsletters and communications for staff.
Draft speeches, press releases, op-eds, donor communications, and public statements on behalf of the Executive Team and senior leadership
Collaborate with the broader Covenant House team on Communications and Branding initiatives
Oversee the use and integrity of the Covenant House brand both internally and externally, including producing any internal brand training
Under the direction of the Development Leadership Team provide special event support and actively assist during special events from start to finish.
Participate and engage in Agency programs and functions as assigned by supervisor.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree required in communications, marketing, social media, or other related areas.
Five years or more in one or more of the following areas: public relations, fundraising, marketing. PRSA member designation would be considered an asset.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including in person and on the phone, with high attention to detail.
Superior project and time management skills, with strong ability to manage priorities and a willingness to pivot and reevaluate as needed.
Detail oriented with an emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and ability to summarize information department wide
Proven ability to create content which will result in click-through conversions
Solid understanding of digital ecosystem and digital marketing solutions and trends with ability to consistently translate that knowledge into engaging content.
Strong ability to relate effectively with staff, youth, and community agencies of varied cultural backgrounds and behaviors
Ability to speak to and reflect CHA’s principals through independent interaction with donors, news media, and others on and off-site
Is approachable, builds rapport well with people of all backgrounds and experiences, and practices attentive and active listening.
Ability to navigate and become proficient with multiple software products including: Microsoft Office Suite, EveryAction, SharePoint, and other software platforms as needed.
Proficient in design software, including Canva, Adobe Suite, WordPress and other
graphic design software
An organized, enthusiastic, hard-working work ethic with a “not above any task” attitude.
Ability to manage private and confidential information in an appropriate manner.
Ability to work independently, using good judgment, and common sense
Willingness and ability to work outside of normal business hours, and holidays and/or weekends as needed.
Possess a current state of Alaska Driving License
Have a clean driving record
Pass federal, state, and local background investigation
Working Conditions
Position is based in an open-format office setting within the Youth Engagement Center. Noise level is mild to moderate, consistent with office and residential environments.
Must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Must have the ability to observe details within close range.
Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time.
Must be able to move within the office to access files and office equipment.
Consistently operates a computer and related office machinery.
Must be able to ascend/descend stairways within a wide variety of facilities with and possibly without the assistance of an elevator
Occasionally moves items up to 40 pounds while ascending/descending stairways.
