About the Role As a Principal Solution Designer, you will play a crucial role in designing technical solutions that actualize Target's enterprise data strategy. By transforming our vision for a modern, cloud-native, AI-enabled data ecosystem into actionable architecture and solution designs, you will contribute to achieving measurable business outcomes. Your expertise will ensure our data platform is technically robust, trustworthy, and scalable, enabling teams across the organization to confidently access and act on data. You will collaborate closely with architecture and engineering leaders to create solutions that modernize our data foundation, reduce complexity, and accelerate innovation. This position is perfect for a strategic problem solver who effectively bridges architecture, execution, and business enablement. Responsibilities Lead the comprehensive solution design for the cloud-native data platform, ensuring alignment with enterprise architectural principles. Translate enterprise data strategy into scalable and secure solution designs across various architecture layers. Incorporate architectural patterns that facilitate real-time, event-driven, and AI-enhanced solutions. Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and engineering teams to deliver actionable insights. Work with engineering teams to implement designs that are reliable and impactful. Advance Target's data ecosystem by creating interoperable and reusable solutions. Promote the use of GenAI-enabled features and automation within the modern data platform. Integrate governance, metadata, and lineage standards into every solution to enhance credibility and compliance. Design self-service analytics tools to provide consistent data experiences across business domains. Work with governance teams to ensure adherence to enterprise data quality and responsible AI standards. Collaborate with enterprise architects and leaders to align solutions with long-term strategies. Mentor solution designers and engineers, enhancing the overall design quality across the organization. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Ongoing education to maintain proficiency in technical domains. 12+ years of solution architecture and technology development experience, focusing on data platforms and cloud ecosystems. 4+ years of experience in strategic planning and directing technical initiatives. Proven history of leading large-scale data modernization efforts from conception to execution. Experience influencing architecture, data governance, and product strategy across teams. Strong systems thinking and ability to evaluate business value, technical feasibility, and user experience in design decisions. Demonstrated executive presence with the capability to convey complex architecture to senior audiences. Comprehensive understanding of modern data architecture patterns. Proven experience in designing secure, scalable cloud-native systems. Expertise in data governance, metadata management, and quality practices on a large scale. Work Arrangement This position may be offered as a Remote or Hybrid work arrangement. A Remote option entails working full-time from home, with potential travel to HQ up to 4 times a year. A Hybrid/Flex for Your Day option allows for both remote and onsite performance depending on the role and tasks required.
