Position Community Recreation Supervisor

Purpose The Community Recreation Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising the use and operation of district facilities and fields for both school district and community programs. Working collaboratively with district leadership, this position oversees scheduling, facility calendars, personnel, and day-to-day operations to ensure safe, efficient, and equitable access. The role supports district initiatives and community partnerships while maintaining compliance with safety requirements, operational standards, and established procedures. This position reports to the Executive Director of Communications and Community Engagement.

Compensation/Pay Range $60,000 (negotiable based on experience)

Schedule Full-time. 10-month (works student calendar) or 12-month. 8 paid hours/day. Note: Work hours are generally daytime, with a minimum of two (2) flexible days per week to support operational oversight of field house staff. Some nights and weekends are expected.

Essential Functions

Manage and oversee internal and external use and rental of district facilities

Manage and oversee districtwide use of the Follett facility scheduling system (formerly MasterLibrary)

Coordinate facility usage for internal user groups.

Coordinate facility usage for outside community user groups.

Coordinate any necessary insurance for group use of facilities.

Coordinate set up and takedown for events and facility usage, in coordination with Athletics, Facilities, Security and other district leadership.

Complete and submit monthly billing spreadsheets for outside user groups.

Manage and oversee the use of the Spartan Field House, Natatorium and Fitness Center for the community.

Coordinate all aspects of the Natatorium with district personnel and outside user groups.

Hiring and supervision of field house staff.

Hiring and supervision of lifeguards.

Provide training and orientation for all new hires.

Manage and submit payroll/timesheets for field house staff.

Manage and submit payroll/timesheets for lifeguards.

Maintain schedules for field house staff to cover all community use hours and other special events, as needed.

Maintain schedules for lifeguards to cover all athletic practices/events, including any/all community user groups.

Organize lifeguard recertification training.

Develop and maintain cycles for lifeguard certification and pool swimming safety plan renewals.

Provide and maintain records of Lifeguard/CPR/AED and First Aid training for all lifeguards.

Provide and maintain records of CPR/AED training for health office staff, physical education teachers, athletic coaches, administrators and other district personnel.

Additional Duties

Provide general support to district departments and community partners regarding facility use processes.

Assist with special projects or initiatives, as assigned.

Support continuous improvement of scheduling, communication, and facility use procedures.

Work collaboratively with the Facilities Supervisor, Athletic Director, Technical Theater Director, Building Principal(s) and District Administrator(s) to manage all facility areas and jointly develop and maintain a comprehensive calendar for all athletic facilities, including:

In-season athletic teams

Out-of-season athletic teams

District-wide activities

Feeder program activities

Outside user group activities

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of facility operations, scheduling, and shared use of athletic and recreational spaces

Knowledge of aquatics center operations, pool safety standards, and lifeguard supervision

Knowledge of payroll processes, timekeeping, and record maintenance

Knowledge of community recreation programming and coordination with outside user groups

Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple schedules and priorities simultaneously

Ability to supervise, train, and support staff in a professional and safety focused manner

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with district staff, students, families, and community partners

Ability to maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements

Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills

Minimum Qualifications: EITHER

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Recreation and/or Parks Management or closely related field, plus two (2) years of full-time or its part-time equivalent paid experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity responsible for planning and implementing recreation programs; OR

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree, plus three (3) years of experience as defined in (A); OR

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree in Recreation and/or Parks Management or closely related field, plus one (1) year of experience as defined in (A); OR

Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree plus two (2) years experience as described in (A); OR

An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), (C) and (D).

Qualifications Profile This is a COMPETITIVE position under Monroe County Civil Service. To be eligible to apply for this position, applicants must meet one of the three criteria listed below:

Experience in facility management, recreation programming, aquatics operations, or a related area preferred.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex scheduling systems and manage large-scale events.

Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Experience working with community groups and coordinating shared facility use preferred.

Capacity to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event needs.

Certification/License

Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Instructor (preferred)

CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Instructor (preferred)

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification (preferred)

Valid driver's license required

Education Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Event Management, Education, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.

Experience 3-5 years of experience in facility scheduling, event coordination, recreation management, or a related field.

Experience organizing educational, recreational, social or community activities or events

Experience working in a school district or municipal environment preferred.

Experience coordinating staffing, logistics, or community programs is beneficial.

Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions; stand, walk, and move throughout facilities for extended periods; and respond to emergencies while enforcing safety procedures. Potential exposure to pool chemicals, water environments, and risks associated with athletic and recreational activities.

Travel Travel between district facilities is required. Occasional travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and community partner locations.
