Previous experience as a coach is desirable

Knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic program

Knowledge of competitive athletic programs

Facility management experience preferred

Reports To: Junction City Middle School Principal & District Athletic Director

BASIC FUNCTION/PURPOSE To provide for overall leadership and coordination among the various sports to facilitate programs that provides students of USD 475 worthwhile extracurricular experiences. Teach physical education part time and provide engaging instruction in the PE Curriculum and encourage health and nutrition and skills leading to healthy lifestyle choices.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Works with building principal in the preparation of the student handbook and inventory of technology equipment.

Works under the direction of the district athletic director for coordination of the overall athletic program.

Responsible for administering all interscholastic policies and procedures working within the confines of the Rules and By-Laws of the Kansas State High School Athletic Association and Centennial Middle School League.

Observe lead coaches sufficiently in order to make future recommendations in terms of job expectancies and to make recommendations to the principal and district athletic director as to coaches' job performance.

Responsible for the development of all interscholastic game schedules supported by a copy of the contract form in their files and approve the publication of all schedules.

Works under the direction of district athletic director in preparing recommendations for the improvement of facilities which shall be directed to the director of business operations and/or superintendent of school for consideration and referral at his/her discretion.

Interprets Board policy to the extent necessary to provide guidance for the schools and coaches under his/her jurisdiction.

Resolve conflicts that may develop from time to time within the ranks of the athletic department.

Responsible for contracting all game officials.

Submit a financial report for Fort Riley Middle School athletics to the district athletic director who will then submit to the superintendent at the end of each school year.

Make arrangements for all interscholastic events as transportation, lodging and meals.

Receive equipment requests from coaches, evaluate such requests and approve appropriate orders.

Attend all home athletic contests and/or arrange for proper supervision of home athletic contests.

Act as tournament manager for all league activities that are assigned to Fort Riley Middle School.

Send reminder of coming events to school and officials.

After consultation with principal and/or lead coach, cancel or postpone contracted contests because of playing conditions.

Maintain permanent records for each sport, win and loss records, outstanding records, and others as needed.

Maintain a permanent file of players, physical forms, participation forms, records, insurance records, parent consent forms, payments and other paperwork.

Maintain a file of all athletic suspensions and expulsions from teams in regard to giving each student-athlete "due process".

Coordinate with the district athletic director and district central office coaches' request to attend coaching clinics at Board of Education expense.

Coordinate with district athletic director and/or the supervisor of maintenance the repair and maintenance of athletic facilities, including physical education facilities.

Represents the school in all athletic business at league.

Responsible for determining scholastic eligibility of all candidates for athletic teams.

Responsible for game management at all home interscholastic contests and responsible for safekeeping and deposit of gate receipts.

Maintain equipment inventory and insure proper storage of all athletic equipment.

Manage athletic facilities including providing keys to appropriate personnel. (Keys will be issued by the school secretary)

Oversee the assignment of concession stands.

Maintain an active program that promotes sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, integrity and responsibility and welcomes the competing teams and guests.

Conducts an annual review of the athletic policies and staff handbook.

Constantly evaluates the program, always seeking ways of improving interscholastic athletics.

Presents recommendations for changes in athletic policies to principal and/or district athletic director.

Perform other duties as assigned by building principal and/or district athletic director.

Term of Employment: Teacher Contract

Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Evaluation Frequency: Job performance will be evaluated yearly.
