Student Account Specialist
Serving in an integral role to student success at VCU, the Student Account Specialist provides exceptional and timely customer service by phone, email, and in person to students, parents, third party representatives, and others concerning the assessment, billing, and explanation of student accounts. The position processes tuition waivers and reviews and audits student account activity to ensure precise billing and collection of student account charges (tuition, fees, room, and board). This position provides individual and prompt service combined with accurate and timely billing ultimately contributing to the recruitment, success, and retention of students at VCU. Typical experience includes work in the banking or retail industry, as a cashier, or customer service representative; and/or work in other areas of higher education such as a fiscal technician role. Duties & Responsibilities: Student Account Support (50%): Provide effective counsel and guidance on student accounts by responding professionally and accurately to inquiries. Account Adjustments and Review (30%): Process tuition waivers, provide receipts/statements/audits and review refund requests. Other Administration (20%): Perform a range of administration tasks to support Student Accounting procedures and policies such as report review and attend court proceedings. Other Position Details: Position work is performed primarily on campus, in-person, but has the potential flexibility for remote work. Typical work week is Mon - Fri 8 AM - 5 PM. Qualifications: High school degree or equivalent. Customer service experience. Working knowledge of accounting, bookkeeping, or other financial services. Strong attention to detail. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Excel) Familiarity with computers in a Windows environment. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Customer service experience in a high volume, fast-paced environment. Customer service experience in a financial (banking or retail) setting.
