Work involves performing funds control functions as office cashier, disseminates information, responds to public inquiries for information, and maintains filing systems. This job is a position of public trust and requires a high degree of confidentiality in handling taxpayer records, information, and payments. Employees at this level may also assist others in performing job duties of greater complexity. Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need. This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule of 3 in office days and 2 remote workdays if certain conditions are met. Work schedules may change at any time as business necessitates. Houston Southwest office is located at 1011 Highway 6 South, Suite 120, Houston, Texas 77077-1036. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development test (GED). 2 years of experience performing clerical office and/or administrative support work. 2 years of experience using Microsoft Word and Excel. 2 years of experience using a multi-line telephone. Qualified Work Experience: Past workforce history or Career and Technical Education (CTE) experience or Career Pathway Program Experience. Preferred Qualifications: 1 year experience handling cash and non-cash transactions. 1 year experience preparing bank deposits for a business. Substitutions: Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university. College credit may substitute for one year of the administrative support or clerical work experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with a maximum substitution of two years. Complete copies of college transcripts must be furnished to the divisional hiring representative at the time of the interview for positions requiring a college degree and/or specific education credits. Licenses and Certifications: A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment. In this role you will: Perform cashier-related tasks. Receive cash and non-cash payments from taxpayers. Enter payment information into an automated system and prepares daily deposits of cash and non-cash payments. Assist staff with travel arrangements and verify travel expense reports for select office staff. Faxes approved freezes, levies, and releases; documents freeze responses and undeliverable mail; and reviews office staff mandatory agency and divisional training records. Update division and agency databases to reflect various collections work, file maintenance, and account statuses. Conducts new hire orientation for employees regarding field office practices. Monitors inventory and orders supplies and forms. Maintains office equipment and makes repair requests. Maintains records retention schedule. Conducts canvassing research and prepares canvassing information and materials. May process sales tax applications and tax reports and may issue bond demands.
