Job Description Job Description The Senior Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, compliant cost estimates by analyzing drawings, specifications, and bid documents while managing subcontractor coordination, RFIs, schedules, and bid deadlines. This role leads estimating efforts on assigned pursuits, secures full subcontractor coverage, manages bid-day execution and leveling, and ensures complete document control. The Senior Estimator also supports departmental standards, builds strong trade partner relationships, and mentors estimators, coordinators, and interns to support overall estimating performance. Job Functions Review and analyze all project documentation, including drawings, specifications, reports, addenda, and site requirements, to fully understand project scope. Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work using estimating software and historical data. Create detailed trade scopes, manage subcontractor solicitation, outreach, follow-up, and ensure full bid coverage. Obtain, level, analyze, and clarify subcontractor and vendor pricing; identify scope gaps and risks. Maintain RFIs, bid logs, addenda tracking, bid calendars, and organized, auditable estimate files. Collaborate with architects, engineers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure accurate documentation and scope alignment. Prepare estimate narratives, bid tabs, qualifications, assumptions, and proposal documentation for review and submission. Support CMAR and negotiated work through progressive, package-based estimating and cost updates by design phase. Identify risks, logistics impacts, and value engineering opportunities to optimize cost without compromising quality or standards. Maintain estimating systems, cost databases, subcontractor records, and comply with company procedures and internal controls. Skills/Knowledge Advanced estimating expertise in interpreting drawings and specifications, performing detailed quantity takeoffs, developing accurate cost estimates, and assessing risk, contingencies, and value engineering opportunities. Strong subcontractor and vendor management skills, including solicitation, bid leveling, scope clarification, market analysis, and maintaining strategic trade partner relationships. Leadership, organization, and communication strengths to manage multiple pursuits, mentor junior staff, collaborate with project teams, and deliver clear, defensible estimates under tight deadlines. Qualifications and Experience 7 years estimating experience with demonstrated delivery of $3MM-$35MM pursuits (or comparable). Strong takeoff and Excel skills; disciplined document control and bid-day execution. Ability to scope, level, and negotiate trade coverage to close gaps and mitigate risk. Experience with public bid forms and compliance requirements preferred.
