Position Summary
The Coordinator of Regional Alumni Community Engagement supports Binghamton University's Advancement goals by strengthening alumni networks and developing volunteer leadership across assigned geographic regions. This position plays a critical role in building a sustainable donor pipeline by recruiting, training, and stewarding alumni volunteers; delivering meaningful engagement opportunities; and partnering closely with development colleagues to identify, cultivate, and steward alumni with philanthropic potential. The coordinator helps foster lifelong relationships between alumni and Binghamton University that advance engagement, advocacy, and giving.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment & Management
Recruit, onboard, train, and steward alumni volunteers to serve as Regional Alumni Community leaders, event hosts, and university ambassadors
Serve as the primary staff liaison for assigned regional alumni communities, clubs, and affinity networks
Establish clear expectations, leadership roles, and succession plans to ensure continuity and effectiveness of volunteer groups
Provide ongoing support, coaching, and recognition to foster strong volunteer relationships and sustained involvement
Regional Programs & Events
Coordinate in-person, virtual, and hybrid alumni programs in key regions, including networking events, professional development programs, social gatherings, and university-led initiatives
Partner with alumni volunteers to design programs that reflect alumni interests while advancing Binghamton University's strategic priorities
Manage event logistics including budgets, venues, registrations, vendors, and post-event assessment
Track participation and engagement outcomes to evaluate impact and inform future planning
Alumni Engagement & Donor Pipeline Development
Advance Binghamton University's alumni-to-donor pipelines by coordinating regional engagement strategies that increase alumni affinity, participation, and philanthropic readiness
Identify engaged alumni and volunteer leaders with leadership and giving potential and share insights with annual giving and major gifts colleagues
Support donor-facing regional events, cultivation opportunities, and stewardship activities aligned with university fundraising priorities and campaigns
Collaborate with development staff to ensure alumni engagement efforts complement solicitation and stewardship strategies
Communications & Relationship Management
Work with Advancement Communications to promote regional programs, volunteer opportunities, and key university messages
Draft targeted communications to alumni and volunteers that encourage participation, leadership, and giving
Maintain accurate alumni, volunteer, and engagement records in the university's CRM system
Collaboration & Campus Partnerships
Collaborate with campus partners such as admissions, career services, academic units, athletics, and student engagement to integrate alumni into university initiatives
Represent Binghamton University Advancement at select regional, alumni, and donor events
Support division-wide Advancement priorities as needed
Data, Reporting & Administration
Track and report on regional engagement metrics, volunteer participation, and leadership activity
Prepare summaries and insights to support alumni engagement and development strategy
Provide administrative support for alumni and volunteer initiatives
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree and one to three years of experience in alumni relations, advancement, volunteer management, nonprofit engagement, event coordination, or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience
Demonstrated experience recruiting, supporting, and managing volunteers
Strong organizational and project management skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends and travel regionally as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting fundraising, annual giving, or donor engagement initiatives
Familiarity with higher education Advancement operations and CRM systems (e.g., Slate, Salesforce, Ellucian)
Experience working in a large, complex organization

Additional Information:
