Position Summary: The Senior Superintendent – Life Sciences is a field executive responsible for leading the on-site delivery of complex laboratory, research, pharmaceutical, and advanced technology projects throughout the Bay Area. This role oversees all field operations, ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with stringent regulatory and quality standards unique to life science environments. The Senior Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, coordinating closely with project management, trade partners, design teams, inspectors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage all on-site construction activities from mobilization through commissioning and closeout. Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, logistics plans, and phasing strategies to support active campus or occupied facility environments. Oversee trade partner coordination, daily field operations, quality control, and safety enforcement. Ensure compliance with cGMP requirements, cleanroom standards, laboratory specifications, and other regulatory considerations where applicable. Conduct regular site meetings, drive accountability across subcontractors, and proactively resolve field conflicts and technical challenges. Collaborate closely with project managers on cost control, forecasting, and change management. Mentor assistant superintendents and field engineers while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications: Minimum 10+ years of progressive field leadership experience in commercial construction, with significant life sciences, laboratory, pharmaceutical, or advanced technology project experience required. Proven track record delivering technically complex projects in occupied or highly regulated environments. Strong understanding of MEP systems, commissioning processes, cleanroom construction, and laboratory infrastructure. Demonstrated expertise in schedule management, site logistics, and subcontractor coordination. Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. OSHA 30 certification required; additional safety or industry certifications preferred.
