
Job Description
The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process for complex commercial construction projects within the hospitality, restaurant, retail, and mixed‑use high‑rise sectors. This role oversees the preparation of detailed cost estimates, analyzes project drawings and specifications, develops subcontractor scopes, and works closely with project teams to ensure competitive, accurate, and complete bids. The Senior Estimator acts as a key contributor in preconstruction, supporting strategic decision‑making and fostering strong client and subcontractor relationships.
Estimating & Preconstruction Prepare detailed conceptual, schematic, and hard-bid estimates for commercial hospitality, restaurant, retail, and high‑rise mixed‑use projects. Analyze architectural, structural, MEP, and interior design documents to identify scope, cost drivers, and constructability considerations. Develop quantity take‑offs, cost breakdowns, and pricing models using industry‑standard estimating software. Lead preconstruction pricing efforts, including value engineering, alternative materials analysis, and cost‑saving recommendations. Validate subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope. Assist in the development of project budgets, GMP proposals, and bid packages.
Collaboration & Communication Partner with project managers, engineers, and preconstruction leaders to establish accurate project assumptions and schedule impacts. Maintain strong communication with clients, architects, and consultants throughout the preconstruction phase. Build and sustain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive market coverage. Present estimates, cost summaries, and risk assessments to leadership and client teams.
Risk Management & Accuracy Identify and evaluate potential risks, scope gaps, and constructability challenges. Ensure all estimates align with company standards, contractual requirements, and industry best practices. Track historical cost data and market trends to continuously refine estimating accuracy.
Qualifications 7+ years of estimating experience in commercial construction; hospitality, retail, restaurant, or high‑rise mixed‑use experience strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience). Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, ProEst, On-Screen Takeoff, Timberline/Sage). Strong understanding of construction means and methods, building codes, materials, and industry standards. Proven ability to interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
