Overview

The Fargo Park District's busiest and most vibrant season runs May through August, and our Marketing & Community Engagement Intern plays a hands-on role in helping connect the community to our parks, programs, and events during this time.

This internship offers real-world experience supporting marketing, storytelling, and community engagement efforts across multiple departments, including Courts Plus, Events, Fargo Parks Sports Center, Forestry, Golf, Parks, Recreation, and Valley Senior Services.

The Marketing & Community Engagement Intern will work closely with the Communications & Engagement team to support outreach efforts, attend community events, capture & create content, and help tell the story of how Fargo Parks serves and brings people together.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys interacting with people, is curious about marketing and communications, and wants to gain experience in a community-centered, nature-focused, public-sector environment.

Job Description:

Responsibilities may include the following:

Community Engagement & Events: Assist with community engagement activities at public events, including tabling, outreach events, and celebrations. Interact directly with community members to share information, answer questions, and gather feedback. Help brainstorm creative ways to engage the public during events and outreach efforts. Learn how community feedback is documented, shared, and used to inform Park District projects and decisions. Marketing & Storytelling Support:

Support marketing efforts for programs, events, and initiatives across Fargo Park District departments. Capture photos and videos at events, parks, and facilities for marketing and storytelling purposes. Assist with creating social media content (posts, stories, reels) for Fargo Park District and sub-brand accounts, under team direction. Help draft written content such as articles, short features, event promotions, and news releases. Digital & Content Assistance:

Assist with email marketing efforts, including the monthly e-newsletter and event promotions. Support website updates and content edits as directed by the Communications team. Follow Fargo Park District brand guidelines to ensure consistency across all materials. Professional Development & Learning:

Build confidence in professional communication through regular interaction with the public. Gain exposure to real-world marketing, outreach, and public-sector communications strategies. Develop ample experience in community engagement, content creation, and marketing support. Learn how a large, multi-department organization plans, communicates, and connects with its audience. Experience and Skills Qualifications:

Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Multimedia Journalism, Advertising, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (preferred). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable interacting with the public in a friendly, professional manner. Interest in community engagement, marketing, parks, recreation, and storytelling. Experience with social media and basic content creation is preferred. Familiarity with basic photo or video editing tools is a plus. Ability to stay organized, manage multiple tasks, and work collaboratively as part of a dynamic, fast moving team. Who You Are:
