Community Services Department Internship Program

Events and Marketing Internship

The City of Naples Community Services Department's internship program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to integrate theoretical concepts in the field of Marketing, Communications, and Hospitality Management with practical applications, all while under the supervision of the Special Events & Marketing Supervisor. Our internship program offers a multi-faceted experience that allows the student to explore various components of marketing and explore their greatest areas of interest.

The Events and Marketing Intern's responsibilities will include content creation for all of our social media accounts, assistance with capturing and analyzing social media metrics, content creation for a city-wide e-newsletter, creation of program/event flyers, and website updates. The Events and Marketing Intern will work closely with the Special Events & Marketing Supervisor in the planning, organizing and execution of city sponsored events. The intern will assist in the special event permitting process and work with event organizers, vendors, and city staff on the logistics of each upcoming event.

Interested students should first contact their internship coordinator/department leadership at their college/university and follow the practices and procedures of their school. With permission from their program/school, candidates must complete this application in its entirety and submit a cover letter explaining their interests, experience, talents, and other information which qualifies them for an internship position. Also, candidates should provide a resume, certifications and two personal references. Once your application is received, the Special Events & Marketing Supervisor will contact the individual candidate for an interview. Interviews can be conducted onsite; if an on-site interview is not practical, a virtual interview will be arranged. If you are selected, we will contact you to confirm dates of your internship and schedule your orientation. Internships are PAID positions. This internship is $19.00/hour. Dress Code:

Each intern must have a valid driver's license and is required to provide their own reliable transportation to get to their work assignments. Meals:

Interns are responsible for providing their own meals.

Internship Responsibilities:

Assists with the planning, organizing, and scheduling of the City's special events program by working with independent organizers and outside organizations to conduct events on City property, as well as throughout City limits. Provides guidance during the special event permit process to ensure all rules, regulations, and documents are provided by event organizers. Regularly supports department staff in the implementation of their special events and programs. Available to answer any questions or concerns during each event from event organizers and/or city staff. Assists in the managing and updating the website, social media, and other forms of media on a regular basis to keep the community informed of upcoming special events, programs, and developments in the department. Contributes in the development of visual displays for use at events and functions to promote the department services and facilities. Works with the Special Event Supervisor on providing a monthly social media report to the Community Services Advisory Board. Performs some accounting, such as fee collections, refunds, and check requests. July is National Parks and Recreation Month and the intern will be involved with planning efforts for the department. Performs other related duties as required. Work Schedule:

To fulfill their school's internship requirements, interns will be expected to work between 32-40 hours per week for 8-12 weeks, depending on their school academic calendar. You may be asked to work on certain nights, weekends and holidays depending on events and programming. Flexible schedule based on class commitments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicant must be currently enrolled in a four-year accredited university or college pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality Management, or a related field. This is part-time role and does not qualify for full-time benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement plans. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced ever-changing environment. Reliable, punctual, and detail oriented. Basic computer skills. Willingness to learn and take initiative. Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram). OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

The City of Naples is a Tobacco-Free Workplace. EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATEMENT Every City employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees may be subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description. Assignments in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature, with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically and operationally challenging conditions.
