A leading U.S.-based energy company based in New Jersey is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to support its commercial services and energy trading operations. This role plays a critical part in advising on complex physical and financial commodity transactions while partnering closely with trading, credit, risk, and compliance teams.

Key Responsibilities Structure, draft, negotiate, and execute a broad range of commercial energy transactions, both physical and financial, including petroleum products, power, natural gas, environmental attributes, and related energy management services Negotiate and manage agreements such as: Product purchase and sale agreements Master trading agreements (e.g., ISDA, LEAP, NAESB) Credit support arrangements and transaction confirmations Rail, pipeline, and marine transportation agreements Terminal, storage, throughput, lease, environmental credit, and confidentiality agreements Advise internal stakeholders on regulatory and compliance matters, including issues related to: Federal and state energy regulators Pipeline operations Cap‑and‑trade and environmental programs Provide practical legal guidance on risk, deal structure, and commercial strategy Manage outside counsel efficiently across transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters Build strong working relationships with business partners to deliver timely, high‑quality legal support Represent the company in interactions with customers, counterparties, competitors, and government agencies Perform additional duties as business needs require

Qualifications Juris Doctor (J.D.) required Active license to practice law in a relevant U.S. jurisdiction; ability to register as Authorized In‑House Counsel in the primary work location 7+ years of progressively responsible corporate or commercial legal experience Experience at both a large law firm and an in‑house legal department strongly preferred Demonstrated interest and experience in energy, commodities, and regulatory law
