Job Summary 
The Senior Director, Public Relations and Corporate Communications is the Chief Reputation Officer, responsible for protecting and enhancing IEEE's global image and reputation. This seasoned PR expert sets the strategic plan for proactive media relations, reputation management, and all corporate messaging, ensuring IEEE's voice is unified and impactful across all stakeholders, including the core IEEE enterprise team, Organizational units, volunteer groups as needed, executive leadership, and government policy arenas. The position will report to the Chief Marketing Officer and have responsibility for 4 direct reports. 

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Reputation Management & Crisis Comms: Own the organization's reputation management strategy and lead all crisis communications efforts, providing senior counsel and execution during high-stakes situations.
  • Proactive PR & Media Relations: Set the strategic plan for global, proactive media relations, positioning key stories, cultivating media links, and ensuring the message agenda aligns with business priorities and strategic goals.
  • Link the message plan to the IEEE strategic plan and goals, work horizontally with key Ous (business units) to bring visibility to one overall plan.
  • Executive & Leadership Messaging: Own the corporate communications strategy, including supporting the President and other executive leaders' strategic roles and key messaging for PR & media , ensuring a holistic, unified message plan across IEEE.
  • Corporate & Internal Comms: Lead internal communications, including internal events such as the CEO's town Hall, and oversee corporate communications efforts, including the annual report and the social impact report.
  • Public Visibility (PV) & Public Affairs: Lead the strategy for Public Visibility initiatives and support Public Affairs, ensuring the organization's voice is prominent in policy arenas and with key external audiences.
  • Ecosystem Cohesion: Partner with Business Units and volunteers to support their specific PR needs while ensuring all messaging contributes to an overall enterprise-level plan.
  • PR & Media relations agency roster: lead the PR and media relations roster and overview to ensure aligned across the ecosystem.

  • 30%25 Domestic and International to include weekends
Education
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Req
  • Master's or other advanced degree Pref
Work Experience
  • 10-15 years Progressive experience in Public Relations and Corporate Communications, with significant experience in a senior leadership role overseeing global reputation management. Proven success in a highly visible role that required positioning stories in top-tier media and working with executive leadership. Experience leading and managing PR & Media relations agencies. Experience leading crisis communications Req
Skills and Requirements
  • Seasoned PR Expert: Deep expertise in developing and executing proactive PR strategies, with established media links and a proven ability to pitch and position complex technical stories.
  • Crisis Management: Extensive, proven experience in high-stakes crisis communications planning and real-time execution.
  • Stakeholder Galvanization: Proven ability to lead and galvanize a fragmented or complex ecosystem (volunteers, business units) to align on a single message agenda.
  • Executive Counsel: Exceptional track record of advising and communicating with C-suite and President-level leaders.
  • B2B/B2C Acumen: Strong understanding of how to position stories and build reputation across both B2B (policy, industry) and B2C (membership, public) audiences.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing change within a communications or PR function.
  • Experience in working with or alongside Public Affairs or Government Relations teams who require support is highly desirable.
  • Experience managing global communications teams and strategies.
