Job Description Purpose
The Director of Nutrition Services develops, implements, and maintains the district’s food and nutrition programs, including administering health and safety standards and verifying nutritional requirements; and directing program operations including planning, staffing, budgeting and complying with established requirements.
Qualifications
Demonstrate experience managing budgets, personnel, and operational programs
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to school nutrition services
Ability to analyze data, apply regulations, and exercise independent judgment
Proficiency with standard office technology and relevant software applications
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Education
Bachelors degree in job-related area; AND State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors OR at least two years of relevant school nutrition program experience required
Experience
Job-related experience within specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility required
Clearance
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
Certifications and Licensing
State-recognized certificate for school nutrition directors preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities
Plan, direct, and oversee all district nutrition services operations to ensure compliance, efficiency, and service quality
Develop, implement, and enforce department rules, procedures, and sanitation standards
Ensure compliance with federal and state child nutrition programs, including Free and Reduced Meal programs
Monitor and manage departmental budgets, expenditures, and financial reporting
Supervise, evaluate, and support nutrition services staff to maintain effective operations
Conduct inspections of kitchens and cafeterias to ensure health, safety, and sanitation standards
Collaborate with internal staff, external agencies, auditors, and community partners
Research and recommend products, contracts, and process improvements
Prepare and present reports, budget information, formal bid processes, and program updates to stakeholders
Represent the district in meetings, trainings, and workshops related to nutrition services
Maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, push, and/pull up to 40lb
Frequent sitting (70%), some walking (15%) and some standing (15%)
Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office and kitchen equipment
Ability to communicate effectively and visually assess work environments
Work Environment
Work performed in office and school food service environments, including kitchens and cafeterias
Exposure to typical noise levels, kitchen equipment, and sanitation materials
Travel between district sites required
