
This is an entry-level position responsible for performing basic urban design assignments under supervision. As part of a project team, you will support the design process and contribute to the development of high-quality work and have the ability to take on a variety of tasks that require applying standard urban design techniques to various projects. Responsibilities may include assisting with design studies, producing drawings and documentation, participating in team meetings, and supporting project coordination efforts.

Position Responsibilities:
Provides support primarily on Project Design/Process.
Ability and interest to shift between urban design/planning and architectural scale and market sectors for design and documentation.
Understanding of conceptual urban design, planning theories, place making, urban form, and building typologies.
Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary design team on multiple aspects of urban design and planning.
Contribute to a team’s creation of place-based, innovative designs that reflect integration of sustainable design principles.
Work with the Design Performance Department to optimize the environmental outcomes at the building, district, and city scale.
Support communications among the client, consultants, and internal project team.
Assist with graphic/digital production of presentations, design layouts, and final documents.
May participate in one or more office initiatives that review and improve Lake Flato’s office culture and efficiency.
May provide support for project pursuits.
Assists with the Marketing Department on presentation collateral and information gathering to support publicity and public relations for Lake Flato at-large.
Be challenged and inspired to help create authentic places and environment.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Urban Design with 0 – 3 years of relevant experience.
Degree in Architecture.
Background or experience in planning / urban design / architecture.
IDP / AXP / AICP participation and LEED Accreditation.
Excellent oral, written and graphic communication skills.
Strong knowledge of CAD, GIS, and 3D computer modeling and rendering (AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape etc.).
Proficiency with digital graphic software such as Adobe Creative Suite.
Ability to sketch and draw by hand.
Highly motivated and able to work both self-directed and in interdisciplinary teams in a fast paced and energetic environment.
Physical Requirements:
Work in an office environment.
Work extended hours.
Sit for extended periods.
Travel.
