The Waverly-Shell Rock Community School District is seeking an Activities Director to provide leadership for all 7th-12th grade activities and athletics at Waverly-Shell Rock. This position serves as a key leadership role within the district and is responsible for creating high-quality experiences for students that extend beyond the school day. The district is seeking a highly skilled and visionary leader who is eager to build upon Waverly-Shell Rock's strong tradition and further elevate the quality, consistency, and impact of student activities and athletics.
The Activities Director oversees middle school and high school athletic programs, fine arts, and co-curricular activities, working closely with building administrators, coaches, advisors, and community partners. This role is central to ensuring programs are well-organized, inclusive, intentionally developed, and aligned with the district's mission and expectations. The successful candidate will bring a strategic lens to program development and a commitment to excellence across all activities.
The work of the Activities Director is grounded in the district's core values of Belonging, Opportunity, and Achievement. At Waverly-Shell Rock, activities are viewed as an extension of learning and an opportunity for students to develop leadership, responsibility, and pride in being a Go-Hawk. The Activities Director plays a critical role in bringing the district's mission to life by ensuring every student activity reflects these values in both word and practice.
Key Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include leadership and supervision of all 7th-12th grade athletic and activity programs; hiring, mentoring, supervising, and evaluating coaches and advisors; oversight of schedules, facilities, transportation, budgets, and compliance; collaboration with principals and district leadership; building strong relationships with families, booster organizations, and the broader community; and promoting a culture of sportsmanship, student leadership, and student well-being.
Qualifications Preferred qualifications include an Iowa Administrative License or Certified Athletic Administrator licensure, along with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to lead complex programs, develop coaches and advisors, and inspire students and adults in ways that foster inclusion, growth, and excellence. Experience in activities or athletics administration is preferred.
Position Details This is a year-round position beginning July 1, 2026. This position offers the opportunity to lead, shape, and sustain Waverly-Shell Rock's high-quality, highly visible, and impactful activity programs during a time of continued growth and high expectations.
