Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Services to provide executive nursing leadership within a hospital setting in Modesto, California. This role reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing services within assigned departments.

Position Summary The Director of Patient Care Services is a Registered Nurse responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating nursing care provided by designated clinical teams. This leader maintains 24/7 accountability for departmental operations, staff performance, fiscal management, and quality outcomes.

The Director fosters a collaborative, professional environment for physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams while driving performance improvement and patient-centered care initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic and operational leadership for assigned nursing units

Maintain 24/7 accountability for department performance, staffing, and outcomes

Oversee workforce planning, scheduling, and performance management

Ensure compliance with hospital policies, state regulations, and accreditation standards

Develop and manage departmental budgets and fiscal responsibilities

Lead quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

Support staff development, mentoring, and clinical competency programs

Promote collaboration between nursing, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams

Monitor patient satisfaction, clinical quality indicators, and operational metrics

Minimum Qualifications Education (Required)

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)

OR

Equivalent nursing education meeting RN licensure requirements

BSN preferred; equivalent RN educational pathway accepted.

Experience (Required)

3–5 years of management experience in a hospital setting

Director-level leadership experience strongly preferred

Experience leading staff, scheduling, performance management, and department operations

Licensure & Certifications (Required)

Active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license

Relocation candidates must obtain California licensure prior to hire

No pending or compact-only licenses accepted

Strong nursing leadership and hospital operations expertise

Experience with budgeting and fiscal oversight

Knowledge of performance improvement and quality initiatives

Effective communication and executive-level presentation skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic clinical environments

Strong decision-making and leadership under pressure

Physical Requirements

Prolonged standing and walking

Ability to lift, position, or push up to 25 pounds

Manual dexterity and mobility

Visual acuity sufficient to perform essential job functions

Hospital-based clinical setting

Exposure to emergency and crisis situations

Subject to irregular hours and operational demands

May experience pressure due to multiple priorities and inquiries
