About the Role Swoon is partnering with a leading organization in the energy industry to hire a
Senior Instructional Designer
to support the design and development of technical training programs. This role will focus on workforce development initiatives that ensure compliance, operational excellence, and alignment with strategic business objectives.
This is a hybrid position based in Livermore, CA, requiring approximately 20% onsite presence.
What You’ll Be Doing
Conduct needs assessments and front-end analyses to identify training gaps and recommend effective learning solutions
Apply the ADDIE model and adult learning principles to design structured, engaging technical training programs
Develop curriculum maps, learning objectives, assessments, and blended learning solutions
Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), learning strategists, and cross-functional stakeholders
Design and develop Instructor-Led Training (ILT), Train-the-Trainer sessions, eLearning modules, and blended programs
Manage project timelines, deliverables, and quality assurance reviews
Track training effectiveness metrics and recommend continuous improvements
Facilitate key project milestones including kick-offs, pilots, and stakeholder reviews
What They’re Looking For
5+ years of instructional design experience
Strong background designing technical training programs (utility, engineering, manufacturing, or regulated environments preferred)
Proven experience applying the ADDIE model end-to-end
Experience conducting needs assessments and collaborating with SMEs
Strong project management skills, including managing timelines and stakeholder communication
Hands-on experience with Articulate (Storyline/Rise) and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within the energy or utility industry
Experience supporting technical or skilled trades training programs
Familiarity with tools such as Questionmark, Author-It, or similar platforms
Experience measuring training effectiveness and implementing continuous improvement strategies
