Marketing Specialist – Remote Location: Remote Job ID: 84508 This position works remotely, requiring a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite. No visa sponsorship is available for this position.

Department Overview

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) is a public agency supported by 12 states and territories. Through the work of thousands of educators, Smarter Balanced created an online assessment system aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), as well as tools for educators to improve teaching and learning. Smarter Balanced is housed at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension. Our work emphasizes high-quality assessment to support instruction and student success, with collaboration among educators, researchers, policymakers, and community groups.

Job Summary

Leveraging expertise as a seasoned marketing and business development professional, this role performs the full range of marketing and communication activities. This includes coordinating events and developing and implementing promotional strategies and materials designed to generate qualified leads, nurture prospective clients, and support the sales pipeline for the organization, public, and/or consortium programs or products. The specialist applies a deep understanding of industry practices, organizational policies, and procedures to resolve a wide range of complex issues and proactively identify growth avenues and market opportunities.

Appointment Information

Budgeted Salary:

$88,830 - $95,250/year. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, UCSC is required to post a reasonable estimate of compensation. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount and should not exceed this posted amount.

Job Duties

65% - Content Creation: Develop promotional materials and products designed to generate leads, foster partnerships, and increase/maintain Smarter Balanced market share. Coordinate design, production, and distribution of marketing and sales enablement collateral, including websites, press releases, ads, catalogs, brochures, flyers, signage, audiovisuals, displays, and design in proposals and exhibits. Research, write, and edit material for internal/external publications to support business development, proposals, and client acquisition. Ensure clarity, organization, and quality of written work and ensure brand consistency across materials.

Create, develop, produce, and coordinate public events, marketing and outreach initiatives, including identifying, pitching, and securing high-value sponsorships and strategic partnerships aligned with business development and membership retention goals. Develop content and processes to enhance market engagement and client communication. Execute comprehensive communications efforts across written, visual, digital, and electronic channels.

35% - Process Development and Implementation: Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners to achieve marketing objectives; identify new opportunities and optimize revenue channels. Coordinate advertising placement and publication schedules; analyze ROI and prepare reports. Administer marketing budgets in line with policy.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor\'s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training. Experience contributing to lead generation and pipeline development; ability to support business growth objectives. Knowledge of communications across multiple media venues and technical requirements; ability to direct technical staff or perform technical work. Knowledge of internal/external location protocols for communication; strong understanding of the sales cycle and marketing\'s role in sales enablement. Proficiency with CRM systems and analytics tools to track and optimize marketing efforts. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to persuade and build external relationships. Ability to articulate the organization\'s value proposition to diverse audiences; identify and cultivate opportunities; conduct market analysis; develop tailored market-entry strategies. Ability to advise management on messaging to target audiences; promote collaboration; meet contractual deliverables. Experience ensuring practices support collaboration and meeting contract terms.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the organization, its mission and goals, and awareness of higher education and/or health sciences issues.

Special Conditions of Employment

Selected candidate will pass pre-employment background check. Ability to work long periods at a computer; this is a fully remote position with UCSC telecommuting requirements. Occasional evenings and weekends; possible national travel; ability to work from home office. Completion of required training and compliance with university vaccination policies.
