Job Purpose
The Director of Operations will partner with the National Operations Manager to create, develop, and implement policies and procedures for the Warehouse and Transportation departments. This individual is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations that impact the branches and the company as a whole. The Director of Operations will execute strategies to enhance operations, support each branch, and drive results through continuous process improvement, KPI measurement, system understanding, staff development, issue resolution, and resource allocation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operations teams to improve quality and efficiency by implementing new systems or refining existing procedures, focusing on inventory, purchasing, fleet management, labor, safety, and SOP development.
- Manage operational management teams to develop and improve processes.
- Drive process improvements through effective communication across departments.
- Collaborate with Warehouse and Transportation staff to develop and execute policies and procedures.
- Ensure team management aligns with system goals and drives improvements.
- Evaluate new opportunities and develop robust operational solutions with the team.
- Manage relationships to achieve cost savings and service improvements.
- Oversee new business implementations with strong project management.
- Maintain compliance with all operational and regulatory requirements.
- Foster strong client relations and resolutions.
- Assist the operations management team in policy, procedure, and system implementation, providing regular updates.
- Develop and implement warehouse and logistics systems to support operational activities.
- Lead organizational development, including hiring, staff development, and management of warehouse, delivery, installation, load crew, and maintenance staff.
- Manage budget and capital expenditure forecasting.
- Support colleagues as needed and ensure phone coverage.
- Address inventory and pricing issues.
- Participate in staff and business meetings.
- Perform other tasks and special projects as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years management experience in distribution and service environments.
- Experience managing and training teams of at least 80 employees in warehouse/logistics operations.
- Proven success in managing operational budgets.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with various management levels.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to analyze and present data effectively across organizational levels.
