Overview
Our client is a growing, multi-office engineering platform with an exciting opportunity for a commercially savvy and technically accomplished MEP Engineering leader to establish and grow a national Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing division from the ground up.
This is a rare leadership appointment that blends deep engineering expertise with real business ownership. The right candidate will have the vision to build a high-functioning MEP capability at scale, the drive to generate and sustain revenue growth, and the credentials to serve as Engineer of Record where required. Operational excellence and strategic thinking will be equally important in this role.
Reporting directly to executive leadership, this position comes with considerable autonomy – from defining the division's structure and talent strategy to shaping how it goes to market. Key Responsibilities
Lead business development efforts, including acquiring new clients and deepening existing relationships
Recruit, mentor, and manage a high-performing, multidisciplinary MEP team
Serve as Engineer of Record (EOR) and maintain full compliance with applicable codes and regulations
Support national growth initiatives and foster collaboration across multiple office locations
Build and scale a commercial MEP division from the ground up into a sustainable, profitable business unit
Oversee project performance, maintaining 30%+ gross margins and strong utilisation targets
Implement forecasting, backlog management, and financial reporting processes
Collaborate with internal architecture and engineering teams to deliver seamlessly integrated project outcomes
Develop and execute a revenue growth strategy targeting $5M+ in annual revenue within 12–24 months
Establish QA/QC standards, technical delivery frameworks, and risk management protocols
Essential Qualifications
Strong understanding of commercial building systems, codes, and compliance requirements
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States
Ability to travel periodically (approximately 10%)
Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in commercial MEP engineering
Experience managing P&L or holding financial accountability within an engineering function
Experience building or substantially scaling an engineering team
Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record
Proven ability to originate revenue and lead financially successful projects
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related Engineering discipline
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Engineering or Business (MBA preferred but not required)
Background in integrated architecture and engineering environments
Experience supporting acquisition integration or operating in high-growth settings
Multi-state licensure or the ability to obtain additional state licences
Experience within a multi-office or platform-based organisation
Base Salary:
USD $120,000 – $235,000 per annum, commensurate with experience, leadership track record, and revenue-generation capability
Bonus:
Annual performance bonus tied to revenue, margin, and operational results
