Agency Description The Monarch Justice Center (MJC) is the Family Justice Center for Napa County. The MJC originated from collaboration among public and private agencies in Napa County committed to reducing the trauma victims of crime endure throughout the criminal justice process. The intent of the MJC is to coordinate person-centered support, services and resources for victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, elder abuse and child abuse.

Position Summary The primary role of the Development Director is to oversee all fundraising, marketing, public relations, and volunteer activities and serves as a key leadership team member of the organization. They will collaborate with staff and board members to develop and execute a comprehensive development plan that results in greater community awareness and financial investment.

Essential Duties

In collaboration with staff, and board members, develop and implement a comprehensive development plan consisting of goals and strategies for fundraising, marketing/public relations, and grant activities.

Research and identify private sources of funding, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Build relationships and collaborate with various Program and Financial leadership staff to determine funding and marketing/PR needs for program services.

Direct communications and marketing for the organization.

Manage annual fund activities, such as direct mail and email campaigns.

Develop and manage events related to fundraising and community awareness.

Manage the major gifts program: identify potential major donors, maintain a donor pipeline, cultivate donor relationships, solicit donors for contributions, and steward donors.

Direct grant writing, reporting, and management; participate and provide support in all grant‑writing and application efforts; create and maintain relationships with foundation staff.

Develop and manage corporate partnerships.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with a minimum of five to ten years of related experience directing a development program in a nonprofit organization.

Ability to manage and grow a development program.

Experience working for a public health and/or safety organization is a plus.

Experience with major donor relations and ability to develop relationships with private and/or corporate funding sources.

Proven record of accomplishment in grant writing and program development.

Prior experience will demonstrate a proven record of accomplishment in securing new funding opportunities, comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for diverse programs.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to juggle multiple projects at once, and respond rapidly and flexibly to changing priorities.

Ability to work harmoniously with others.

Ability to accept and follow instructions.

Some travel required.

Language and Communication Skills Ability to communicate clearly in writing and orally in English. Strong organizational skills. Ability to write reports, grants, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, peers, donors, board, general public, etc.

Computer Skills, Certificates, Licenses, & Registrations Proven ability to work with a variety of programs including Word, Excel, Client Database, etc. Valid California Driver’s License required and current vehicle registration. Other mandatory certifications as needed. The candidate must submit to and pass a background investigation, if requested.
