Technical SEO Engineer (Salk Lake City, UT)
Nectiv, Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, 84193
Nectiv is an organic growth consultancy focused on technical SEO, content strategy, information architecture, and optimization for AI answer engines (AEO/GEO). We work with SaaS companies, marketplaces, and enterprise brands to solve complex organic search challenges — from site architecture and crawl optimization to structured content systems and AI search visibility.
We prefer systemic fixes over one-off edits, prioritized by business impact rather than vanity metrics, and ship in stages with validated outcomes before expanding.
The Role You'll be the technical backbone of Nectiv's delivery. Where our strategists define the "what" and "why" for clients, you own the "how" — building solutions, debugging complex issues, creating automation that scales our work, and monitoring technical health across our client portfolio. You're the go-to for anything that requires code, deep technical investigation, or systems thinking.
Your time splits between client-facing technical work (audits, debugging, implementation support, AI-readiness evaluation) and internal process and tooling (automation workflows, dashboards, monitoring systems, tool stack development). You'll be on client calls regularly to speak to technical topics, but you won't own client relationships — that's the strategist's domain.
As a foundational hire, you'll also shape how Nectiv's technical delivery works — the tools we use, the processes we follow, and the standards we hold.
What You'll Do Technical SEO Execution & Debugging
Serve as the point person for technical projects across client accounts
Debug JavaScript rendering issues, crawl anomalies, indexation problems, and other highly technical challenges that require engineering-level investigation
Execute comprehensive technical audits (crawlability, indexation, rendering, internal linking, site architecture) — strategists scope and prioritize the work; you dig into the technical investigation and produce detailed findings
Analyze server log files to diagnose crawler behavior, crawl budget allocation, and indexation anomalies
Build redirect maps, validate redirect chains, and QA URL consolidation work
Produce engineering-ready implementation documentation for client development teams
Work directly with client engineering teams on implementation, QA, and validation
Evaluate AI-readiness across client sites and surface gaps in content extractability, semantic structure, and schema coverage
Support site migrations, platform changes, and major technical initiatives
Content Engineering
Build and maintain structured content systems — templates, metadata models, and modular components that can be reused and scaled across client sites
Implement and optimize schema markup and structured data to improve machine-readability for both search engines and AI answer engines
Build content structures that support AI extraction — clear heading hierarchies, modular answer blocks, entity-rich structure
Support programmatic SEO initiatives — template systems, data-driven page generation, and dynamic content at scale
Build automated content refresh and maintenance workflows triggered by performance signals
Department-Wide Technical Health Monitoring
Own a systematic process for monitoring technical health across all client accounts
Surface and prioritize key technical issues before they impact performanceBuild automated alerting and monitoring dashboards that track leading indicators (crawl health, indexation, schema validation) and lagging indicators (traffic, conversions)
Track and triage algorithm updates and their impact across the client portfolio
Automation & AI Workflow Development
Design and build AI-powered SEO workflows using automation platforms (AirOps, n8n, or similar) and custom scripts
Develop automation pipelines for research, analysis, and reporting
Integrate LLM APIs into SEO workflows — content analysis, entity extraction, keyword clustering, quality assessment
Build custom internal tools and dashboards that improve delivery efficiency
Reduce manual work across the team through scalable automation
Web Development & Platform Expertise
Comfortable working across CMS platforms, headless architectures, and JavaScript frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, Angular)
Debug rendering, hydration, and client-side vs. server-side issues
Support client engineering teams with technical guidance, implementation specs, and QA — this is the primary mode of working with client dev teams
When client development resources are unavailable or when speed matters, implement technical changes directly (templates, components, configurations)
Ensure technical SEO best practices are baked into site architecture decisions
Internal Tooling & Process Development
Help build and maintain Nectiv's internal tool stack and data infrastructure
Create reusable scripts, templates, and frameworks that standardize technical delivery
Develop internal QA and validation workflows
Evaluate and integrate new tools into the Nectiv stack
Document processes, playbooks, and technical standards
Contribute to methodology development alongside the strategy team

Comfort working on client calls in a supporting technical capacity
Strong problem-solving skills and a systems-thinking mindset
