Located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, Gibson Island is situated on the western shore of Chesapeake Bay between Baltimore and Annapolis. It is an enchanting, private island accessed by a man-made causeway. Gibson Island Club opened in 1921. In 1924, the Charles Blair Macdonald/Seth J. Raynor design opened as an 18-hole golf course. The club now is a nine-hole facility with Bermuda tees, fairways, and roughs & bent grass putting greens. In recent years, the golf course has undergone significant improvements in conditioning, practices, and daily preparation. In the fall of 2021, Lester George rebuilt a Redan template par 3 to add to the golf experience of our Macdonald & Raynor course.
Position Summary Gibson Island Club is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic
Lead
Assistant Golf Professional
to join our golf operations team for the 2026 season. This is a
year round
position, ideal for a motivated professional looking to provide exceptional service to members and guests in a high-end private club environment.
The Lead Assistant Golf Professional will play a key role in all aspects of daily golf operations, including tournament operations, merchandising, golf instruction, leadership oversight and member services. This is a valuable opportunity to gain experience in a top-tier private club setting while contributing to a culture of hospitality, professionalism, and excellence.

Experience Required Qualifications:
Leadership experience managing a golf staff
PGA/LPGA membership
Strong experience with tournament administration
Desire to advance in the golf industry and become a head professional
Must be visible, easily approachable, and pro-active in nature
Must have a valid Driver's License
Maryland Live Scan and Child Protective Services background check required
Proven ability to deliver excellent customer service
Proficient with golf POS systems, Microsoft Office, Golf Genius, Northstar or similar
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
Available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
Able to meet the physical demands and daily work environment; tolerate hot, cold, rainy or humid conditions. Frequent repetitive motions. Bending, climbing, lifting along with continuous standing and walking are all daily actions required of the position
Essential Responsibilities Leadership & Member Experience
Serve as a senior leader within the golf operation, working closely with the Head Golf Professional
Maintain a highly visible presence, fostering strong relationships with members and guests
Uphold and enhance all service standards, pace-of-play expectations, and club policies
Golf Operations
Assist with oversight of daily golf operations including tee sheet management, golf shop operations, and staff coordination
Ensure seamless communication between golf operations, outside operations, and other club departments
Support continuous evaluation and improvement of operational procedures
Tournaments & Programming
Lead the planning, administration, and execution of member tournaments, leagues, and all golf related events
Strong proficiency with POS systems, Golf Genius software and Microsoft Office suite
Assist with major championships and club-wide golf events
Oversee tournament scoring, formats, communication, and member satisfaction
Instruction & Player Development
Deliver high-quality private instruction, group clinics, and player development programs
Support junior golf, family programming, and member engagement initiatives
Merchandising
Support seasonal merchandising strategies and special events
Maintain a polished, member-focused retail environment
Staff Development
Lead, mentor, and evaluate assistant professionals and golf operations staff
Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management
Promote a professional, accountable, and team-oriented culture
Administrative Responsibilities
Maintain compliance with island and club policies
Support all updates with operational manuals and departmental procedures
