Opportunity for advancement

Animal House Naturals has been a thriving, family‑owned and operated cornerstone of St. Petersburg's pet community—now our third generation. We specialize in premium, natural, and holistic pet nutrition and supplies, curating the finest brands with clean ingredients, ethical sourcing, and real health benefits. Just as people thrive on whole, nourishing foods, we passionately believe in the dietary power of high‑quality pet foods to support vibrant health, vitality, and longevity for dogs, cats, and all companions. If this matches your philosophy, then this is a great opportunity for you.

Only one position is available, starting part‑time (25 hours), but with opportunity to quickly grow into full‑time and advance into management within our thriving business.

What We're Looking For (Key Requirements):

1‑2+ years of hands‑on experience in independent or upscale pet retail (premium/natural‑focused stores strongly preferred—big‑box or chain grocery/pet superstore experience does not align with our needs)

Deep knowledge of premium and natural pet food brands we proudly carry (e.g., Open Farm, Farmina, Stella & Chewy's, OC Raw, Primal, SmallBatch, Carna4, Dr. Marty’s, Fromm, Acana, Orijen, Zignature, The Honest Kitchen, and similar high‑end, science‑backed lines)

Ability to explain the "Why" behind raw, freeze‑dried, and gently cooked diets to customers who may currently be using grocery‑brand kibble.

Knowledgeable in pet nutrition—passionate guide customers on ingredients, life‑stage needs, allergies, raw/fresh/dehydrated diets, limited‑ingredient options, and how quality food supports overall health. We’ll pay more for a Certified Nutritionist.

A heartfelt commitment to delivering personalized, high‑touch service and forming strong, trusting bonds with pet parents as some of our patrons have been with us for decades.

Experience with eTailPet POS system is a major plus (we’ll train dedicated learners from comparable systems).

Physical requirements: Comfortable standing and working on your feet for full shifts, lifting boxes/bags of food up to 50 lbs, light stocking, inventory counts, and cleaning (counters, terminals, and occasional mopping).

A great winning‑problem‑solving attitude — positive, proactive, empathetic, and always eager to help! (And… we empower and compensate for good solutions!)

Reliable and flexible to work evenings and weekends (our busiest, most rewarding times!)

Operational Trust: Minimum 1‑2 years of experience as a Key Holder. You must be comfortable with independent opening/closing procedures and basic till reconciliation.

Because this involves high‑level trust and facility access, all final candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive background check prior to hire.

As a 44‑year pillar of the St. Petersburg community, we hold our reputation and our store’s security in high regard. This role is a Key Holder position, responsible for opening and closing procedures.

What We Offer:

One position: Starts part‑time with potential to become full‑time and clear opportunities for advancement.

Competitive hourly pay: $16–$20+ per hour (based on your relevant premium/independent experience, certifications, education, etc.).

Spiffs and commissions on top of base pay — earn more by sharing your genuine passion!

Weekly pay for reliable, consistent compensation.

After 90 days: Eligibility for free monthly food for your own cat or dog.

Ongoing training every month to deepen your knowledge and help you better educate pet parents.

Certified nutrition program: Opportunity to become Pet Nutrition Certified with a pay raise upon successful completion!

Strong company culture: We genuinely care about one another in our close‑knitted family team—one team member has been with us for 37 years!

Holiday schedule: Closed on Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, and 4th of July — time to enjoy with family (including furry ones!).

Vacation time: After your first full year, eligible for one week of paid vacation at your regular hourly rate.

Generous staff discounts on our premium natural products.

The deep fulfillment of joining a thriving small business and making a real, loving difference in pets’ lives every day.
