This position offers the ability to work remotely three days per week with a flexible/hybrid work schedule. The Saving, Access, and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Bureau within the Michigan Department of Treasury is looking for a dynamic leader with excellent leadership skills, strategic planning abilities, high ethical standards, and a positive attitude to join their team.

The Division Director of the Unclaimed Property Division is responsible for overall administration of the Division, including the administration of the Uniform Unclaimed Property Act (Act 29 of 1995), enhanced enforcement of the Act to increase properties reported and holder compliance, oversight of hundreds of audits performed by multiple auditing firms with over 100 auditors under contract, as well as personnel services, financial integrity, legal compliance, operational standards, record‑keeping, marketing, and promotion of efficiency and prompt service to claimants and holders. The Director also determines issues for the State Treasurer’s review/action, administers policies and procedures, and provides leadership, strategic vision, planning, and oversight for all financial empowerment initiatives in coordination with Bureau and Departmental staff.

Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Experience Two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or equivalent experience. Professional experience is counted post‑bachelor’s degree. Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of safety and regulatory or law‑enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of safety and regulatory or law‑enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

Remote Work This position is eligible to work remotely on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and must work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The selected candidate must have a secure, safe and appropriate designated workspace that allows privacy and prevents distractions to perform the duties of this position. Additionally, the selected candidate must have secure and sufficient internet access of commercial cable or wireless broadband with minimum speeds of 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload. Remote work arrangements are subject to management approval and may be adjusted or discontinued at any time.

Work must be performed in the state of Michigan If you currently reside outside of Michigan, you must relocate to Michigan to perform the duties of this position prior to being appointed. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed.
