
TITLE: Sales Engineer
LOCATION: Cypress, CA - will consider other areas
COMPENSATION: 130,000 - 150,000 - 20% - 15% Bonus - no commission
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 20%-30% - primarily U.S., once to twice a year international
Role Overview TEC Group is looking for a Sales Engineer to serve as the primary technical resource for our client's sales team. You will bridge the gap between complex engineering designs and client energy requirements, providing the deep technical validation necessary to move deals from lead generation to implementation. This role is essential for delivering highly engineered, sustainable solutions to the Data Center, Midstream and C&I Power markets.
Core Responsibilities Technical Pre-Sales Support
Solution Architecture: Lead the technical discovery process to understand client energy loads, uptime requirements, and site constraints.
Technical Presentations: Deliver high-level technical presentations and product demonstrations to engineering and operations stakeholders.
Proposal Development & Engineering Liaison
Detailed Proposals: Collaborate with the Sales Account Executive to develop technical sections of proposals, including performance modeling and equipment specifications.
ROI & Financial Modeling: Translate technical performance data into financial outcomes, such as emissions reduction and energy cost savings.
Internal Coordination: Serve as the "voice of the customer " tointernal engineering and product teams to ensure client requirements are reflected in final designs.
Technical Subject Matter Expertise
Technology Advocacy: Share deep-dive insights on microgrids, renewable integration, and advanced energy recovery systems with client stakeholders.
Regulatory & Compliance: Ensure all proposed technical solutions align with local utility regulations, environmental policies, and industry standards.
Implementation Hand-off
Scope Definition: Finalize the technical Scope of Work (SOW) to ensure a smooth transition from the sales cycle to the operations and deployment teams.
Pilot Support: Assist in the technical management of pilot programs or initial deployments to validate performance metrics.
Qualifications & Skills Experience & Education
Technical Sales Experience: 8+ years of experience in sales engineering or application engineering within the power generation, energy, or data center sectors.
Sector Expertise: Deep familiarity with industrial midstream operations, utility interconnects, or large-scale critical infrastructure.
Academic Background: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering is required; PE (Professional Engineer) license is a plus.
Technical & Professional Competencies
Systems Knowledge: Strong expertise in power systems, thermodynamics, microgrids (VPP/DER), and onsite energy resilience.
Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to communicate highly technical concepts to both engineering peers and non-technical executives.
Problem Solving: A strategic thinker capable of identifying technical risks and developing creative mitigation strategies.
Software Proficiency: Experience with technical modeling software, CRM systems, and the MS Office suite.
Additional Requirements
Travel: Frequent travel is required for site visits and technical deep-dive meetings with clients.
