Overview
Continental Electronics Corporation is a leading provider of RF technologies and innovative solutions with over 75 years of proven performance. CEC has experienced significant recent growth and has established itself as the go‑to supplier for a diversified product line supporting a wide spectrum of markets from commercial products, military customers, to space research laboratories.
Continental Electronics is seeking Printed Circuit Board Designers. The Designer will be responsible for the layout and documentation of simple through complex PCBs for digital, analog and mixed signal functionality, supporting the development of ultra‑high‑power RF transmitter systems.
Responsibilities
Realize PCB designs of high component density and high layer count while balancing the competing needs of the electrical design (e.g. high speed signal routing, EMI/EMC, signal integrity) with those of the manufacturing standards (DFM and DFT)
Capture PCB design requirements from the development engineering team and schematic development engineer
Participate in the estimation of PCB design efforts for scope of work and effort
Participate with fellow PCB designers in best practices for layout and simulation of high‑speed signals as well as analog and power supply circuitry
Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure the highest quality PCB design developments
Place and route components ensuring all electrical and physical specifications meet the specific design requirements for each PCB design
Participate in design reviews, interface with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and process engineers to design prototype and production quality printed circuit boards in accordance with CEC’s standards and procedures
Create fabrication and assembly drawings and parts lists and incorporate changes to existing design documentation
Generate all output files required for the manufacture of boards and assemblies
Create and modify/maintain both schematic drawings and PCB layouts
Suggest options when faced with challenging PCB design situations including resolution to non‑standard problems
Elicit layout technique best practices from senior design engineers and incorporate those best practices into the PCB Design Group (i.e., gather, document, train others)
Uphold the company’s core values of integrity, innovation, accountability, and teamwork
Demonstrate behavior consistent with the company’s code of ethics and conduct
It is the responsibility of every employee to report to their manager or a member of senior management any quality problems or defects in order for corrective action to be implemented and to avoid recurrence of the problem
Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business
Qualifications
High school diploma
4 years of related experience
Practical understanding of analog, high‑speed digital circuit and RF design (a plus) and/or PCB designs that practice these traits
In‑depth knowledge of PCB design, design processes, fabrication technology
Intimate familiarity with signal integrity practices and theories
Must have experience in Siemens EDA (Mentor Graphics) PADS and Altium Designer software packages or experience in other schematic capture and layout tool(s) with ambition to learn
Digital & analog PCB development
Experience with incorporating engineering change orders
Experience working with a broader team, capable of communicating across functional boundaries
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced and rapidly changing environment
