About the Opportunity This is a commercially focused analytics role embedded within the Energy Markets and Optimization function of a well-capitalised US power generation platform.
You will sit at the intersection of fuel supply, generation dispatch, wholesale power markets, and portfolio strategy. Your analysis will directly influence operational decisions, asset planning, acquisition underwriting, and redevelopment initiatives across thermal and renewable assets.
This is not theoretical modelling. This is real time performance tracking, real settlement reconciliation, and real commercial impact across a growing generation portfolio operating in competitive ISO markets.

The Role The Commercial Analytics Analyst supports day to day performance and long term planning of a merchant generation portfolio.
You will deliver decision grade analytics and performance insights across fuel supply economics, dispatch outcomes, wholesale power and gas markets, and settlement validation. You will also support scenario modelling tied to acquisitions, contracting, redevelopment initiatives, and emerging load opportunities including data center related developments.
Key Responsibilities Generation Fuel Supply Analytics
Analyse delivered fuel cost drivers including basis, transport, balancing, constraints and outages
Track fuel nominations, volumes and operational drivers impacting cost and availability
Incorporate backup fuel economics into operational contingency and stress scenarios
Generation Dispatch and Unit Economics
Evaluate dispatch outcomes using operational inputs such as heat rates, outages and start costs alongside market inputs
Support offer strategy analytics across energy and ancillary service products
Identify and explain drivers of performance variance versus expectations
Maintain transparent assumptions and sensitivities tied to unit performance
Power and Gas Market Analysis
Monitor drivers of power prices, congestion, heat rates and day ahead versus real time dynamics
Track and summarise relevant ISO and RTO rule changes and their commercial implications
Support capacity market analysis including auction outcomes and rule change sensitivities
Settlements and Performance Reconciliation
Perform daily and weekly settlements validation across energy, ancillary services and capacity revenues
Identify variances between expected and realised results and coordinate resolution with internal stakeholders
Develop simple controls and repeatable processes to improve reconciliation accuracy
Scenario and Decision Support
Build structured scenarios supporting budgeting, asset planning, underwriting and contracting decisions
Support redevelopment analytics across renewables, storage and load driven opportunities
Translate analytical outputs into clear commercial impacts, highlighting earnings drivers and risks
Data and Tool Development
Improve and maintain analytical tools and datasets used by the commercial function
Build repeatable workflows using Excel and coding tools such as SQL or Python
Coordinate data inputs across internal teams and third party partners
Document methodologies to ensure repeatability and transparency
Reporting and Communication
Produce recurring performance and market exposure reports
Clearly communicate what has changed, why it matters, and what decisions it impacts
Support concise management updates covering fuel, dispatch, settlements and market drivers
Your Background Required
3 to 8 years of experience in US power and or natural gas markets, generation dispatch, fuel supply or commercial operations
Experience within an IPP, utility, developer, energy manager, ISO, trading desk or energy consultancy environment
Advanced Excel capability
Strong analytical accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to convert operational and market analysis into clear written and verbal insights
Comfortable managing multiple deliverables with limited oversight
Preferred
Experience in PJM, NYISO or ISO NE markets
Exposure to other ISO or RTO markets such as ERCOT, MISO, SPP or CAISO
Experience working with outsourced energy management and settlement workflows
SQL or Python for automation and analytics
Familiarity with LMPs, congestion, day ahead versus real time spreads, ancillary services and capacity constructs
