Position Summary Senior Employee Relations Specialist partners with the HR Director and Hospital leadership to lead and administer employee relations programs that promote consistency, fairness, and compliance across the organization. This role provides expert guidance on the interpretation and application of hospital policies and procedures, as well as state and federal employment laws, and serves as a trusted advisor on complex employee relations matters. The Senior Employee Relations Manager oversees investigations, corrective action, and performance management support, while also managing key operational responsibilities such as unemployment claim responses, employee engagement events, grassroots meetings, and new employee orientation. In addition, this position supports leadership development and training initiatives and drives proactive efforts to strengthen workplace culture, engagement, and risk mitigation.
Position Requirements
Licensure/Certification/Registrations: PHR/SPHR, CP/SCP strongly preferred.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Development or other related field or a combination of relevant experience and education is required.
Experience: 5–7 years of progressive HR experience with a strong emphasis on employee relations, including advising leaders on corrective action, investigations, and policy interpretation. Working knowledge of state and federal employment laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EEO) and their practical application. Experience conducting employee relations investigations and recommending appropriate, compliant outcomes. Hands‑on experience with unemployment claims administration, employee engagement initiatives, and new employee orientation. Experience supporting or delivering leadership training and development programs. Proficiency working with HRIS systems for employee data management, reporting, and documentation. Experience in a healthcare, nonprofit, or highly regulated environment preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications with general knowledge of extracting and analyzing data from database systems preferred. Familiarity with emerging AI tools and technologies as they relate to HR processes, data analysis, and workflow efficiency. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Essential Functions
In partnership with the Director of Human Resources, lead and administer the Hospital’s employee relations program, ensuring consistent interpretation, application, and enforcement of HR policies, procedures, and applicable employment laws in alignment with organizational culture and practices.
Serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees by providing day‑to‑day guidance on employee relations matters, including performance management, corrective action, workplace conflict, and concerns related to discrimination, harassment, or unfair treatment.
Support and advise leaders throughout the employee termination process, including reviewing documentation, assessing risk, ensuring policy and legal compliance, and preparing leaders for termination meetings.
Conduct and oversee employee relations investigations, including gathering facts, analyzing findings, documenting outcomes, and recommending appropriate actions to mitigate risk and minimize legal exposure.
Ensure timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of employee relations actions, including corrective action, investigations, and termination decisions, in accordance with organizational standards and legal requirements.
Review, prepare, and submit unemployment claims documentation, respond to agency requests, and partner with external vendors or state agencies as needed to protect the organization’s interests.
Partner with HR leadership to review, evaluate, and recommend updates to HR policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with state and federal employment laws and alignment with best practices.
Identify emerging employee relations trends, compliance risks, and organizational concerns and recommend proactive solutions, process improvements, or policy enhancements.
Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel, as appropriate, on employee relations matters, investigations, terminations, and potential litigation or claims.
Assist in identifying, developing, and delivering training for leaders, HR team members, and employees on employee relations topics, performance management, workplace conduct, and policy application.
Analyze employee relations, onboarding, retention, and turnover data, including exit interview trends, and provide actionable recommendations to improve engagement, employee experience, and first‑year retention.
Support employee engagement initiatives by participating in employee feedback discussions, continuous improvement efforts, and the development of programs designed to strengthen morale and workplace culture.
Partner with the Marketing department and HR leadership to develop internal and external communications related to HR initiatives, employee events, and engagement programs.
Coordinate and support employee events, including planning, promotion, budgeting, and virtual or onsite execution, in collaboration with HR team members, volunteers, and cross‑functional partners.
Assist the Director of Human Resources with annual planning, budgeting, and scheduling for employee relations and engagement initiatives.
