Job Description Job Summary The Director of University Ministry / University Chaplain is responsible for the sacramental and liturgical life of the University community. The liturgical life of the Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) community is central to its spiritual mission; therefore, the Director/Chaplain oversees the Sacred Heart Conventual Chapel, and all sacred liturgies and signature religious events held therein.
The Director/Chaplain provides spiritual direction, pastoral care, and faith formation to students, faculty, and staff. As an ordained member of the clergy, the Director/Chaplain is responsible for the administration, supervision, and coordination of all programs offered through University Ministry, including managing the student ministry team and supporting the broader mission of the Division of Mission and Ministry.
The Director/Chaplain works collaboratively as a member of the Division of Mission and Ministry to initiate, promote, and support programs and activities that deepen the quality of religious and spiritual life within the University community.
Performance Evaluation Metrics
Increase participation of Spirit Day Liturgy and Candlelight Advent Service by 10%.
Increase interdepartmental collaboration within two ministry programs.
Provide two ecumenical opportunities for our students in the academic year.
Essential Functions
Provide Eucharistic celebrations, reconciliation rites, ecumenical services, and other sacramental opportunities for the University community.
Serve as the principal celebrant for daily and weekend Masses.
Collaborate in the planning and coordination of university graduation liturgies and Ring Blessing ceremonies.
Celebrate and promote participation in the liturgical life of the University, including major celebrations such as the Mass of the Holy Spirit, Advent Candlelight Service, and Lenten services.
Provide pastoral counseling and spiritual direction to members of the University community.
Support the deepening of spiritual life and community bonds among students, faculty, and staff.
Promote active and inclusive participation in worship across the University community.
Encourage the integration of religious, ethical, and human values within academic disciplines.
Initiate and foster groups, coalitions, and programs that enhance the quality of religious life on campus.
Support and promote the mission of University Ministry.
Promote awareness of local, national, and international issues, especially social justice, hunger, peace, and human dignity, and encourage individual and collective responsibility.
Maintain an active relationship with the ecclesiastical body in which the Chaplain is ordained.
Work collaboratively with Mission and Ministry staff and campus partners.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Mission and Ministry.
Additional Responsibilities
Meet periodically with the Vice President for Mission and Ministry.
Participate in Division of Mission and Ministry programs.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate commitment to the Catholic faith and its traditions.
Ability to engage and work effectively with young adults in their faith and spiritual development.
Strong pastoral presence, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work collaboratively within a mission-driven academic community.
Education and Experience
Ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing with the Catholic Church.
Master of Divinity required.
Requires a minimum of three to five years of experience in college ministry or young adult ministry.
