Job Profile: Communications Specialist

Job Summary As part of the UW Department of Radiology’s communications team, the communications specialist will join the communications manager, another communications specialist, and a web operations manager in creating compelling content for a variety of external and internal audiences. Primary responsibilities include writing articles that translate complex scientific and clinical work into effective narratives; developing monthly newsletters and slides for internal communications; working with subject matter experts on effective web content; contributing to web strategy and editorial planning; and maintaining a social media presence. A successful candidate will be a motivated, detail-oriented, and creative professional who can collaborate with stakeholders while independently managing multiple concurrent projects. We seek someone enthusiastic about learning about radiology and dedicated to growing as a communications professional.

This position may require some work to be performed in‑person, on campus. Some work may be performed remotely.

Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives.

Plans editorial content according to established goals and objectives.

Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources.

Manages web content, designs layout of specific pages, and ensures accessibility.

Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns.

Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans.

Develops visual content for web, social media, and other channels.

Compensation The starting salary for the position is $60,000; negotiable based on experience and qualifications. An employee in this position can expect benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and sick leave; competitive insurance and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Required Qualifications

Minimum of 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or related field.

Minimum of 1 year of professional writing experience.

Minimum of 1 year of experience coordinating and prioritizing multiple simultaneous projects involving various stakeholders.

Experience managing web content, preferably using WordPress, with a focus on digital accessibility.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education, health care, or related field.

Education Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field preferred.
