About the Anne Arundel County Executive’s Office The Office of the County Executive is dedicated to providing efficient, transparent, and responsive government services for the residents of Anne Arundel County. The Communications Department serves as the primary link between the administration and the public, ensuring that county initiatives, safety information, and community resources are communicated clearly and effectively across all platforms.
Position Description This part-time, contractual position provides support to the Director of Communications and the Communications Team within the County Executive Office. The Specialist will manage calendars and tasks, draft key communications materials, and develop consistent, engaging written content for the County Executive’s digital presence. This role requires a skilled, creative writer and an organized coordinator.
Examples of duties include:
Administrative Management
Calendar Management:
Support communications team scheduling, track communications requests, and deliverable timelines using project management software and Google Calendar.
Drafting Materials:
Assist with drafting briefing materials and letters; occasionally assist with media advisories and press releases for communications-related events and public appearances.
Official Recognitions:
Assist with the drafting, editing, and assembly of official County citations and proclamations.
Content Creation & Digital Outreach
Newsletters & E-Comms:
Prepare and draft weekly electronic newsletters to ensure residents and staff remain informed of county business.
Social Media:
Draft weekly social media content copy and messaging; contribute creative ideas for campaigns and monitor digital engagement.
Podcast:
Manage the uploading, email marketing, and backend process of the County Executive’s podcast.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Proficient with social media management, digital marketing, and content design tools. (i.e. Buffer, Constant Contact, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and social media networks)

Accredited University or College is the recognition from an accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards. The U.S. Department of Education maintains a database of accrediting agencies it recognizes for schools within the United States.
For a University or College outside the United States, the applicant must provide documentation of accreditation and educational equivalency, which can be accomplished through a credential evaluation service. Applicants with a foreign degree must provide this documentation upon the close of the announcement.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in an administrative or support role is preferred.
Exceptional written communication skills with comprehension of tone and grammar.
Proficient with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) and content design software.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, showing initiative, accountability, and professional follow-through.
Ability to learn, understand, and apply County policies and procedures quickly.
Ability to handle a fast-paced, high-profile environment with discretion.
Reliable transportation.
