The Community Engagement Manager. plays a vital role in expanding awareness, engagement, and impact of The Arc Southern Maryland’s programs and services. This position leads community outreach efforts, strengthens family engagement, and supports fundraising. This role serves as a connector between schools, families, community partners, and supporters—ensuring that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families are informed, supported, and represented.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Community Outreach & Partnerships

Build and maintain relationships with local school systems, special education departments, transition coordinators, and guidance counselors to promote The Arc’s Transitioning Youth Program and related services. Connect students with our CDS Department.

Identify and connect with CCS organizations in Anne Arundel County to establish The Arc as a provider of choice.

Build partnerships with local businesses, chambers of commerce, civic groups, and community leaders in Southern Maryland and Anne Arundel County.

Attend and actively participate in Chamber of Commerce networking meetings, and community gatherings to promote The Arc’s mission and programs.

Identify, cultivate, and secure event sponsors and community partners to support organizational initiatives.

Family Outreach & Engagement

Conduct 10 quarterly check-ins with families, ensuring consistent communication, support, and relationship-building.

Document family concerns, identify emerging needs, and collaborate with internal teams to create plans of action.

Design, coordinate, and lead:

Caregiver workshops

Parent support groups

Webinars and in-person resource events

Serve as a trusted point of contact for families navigating disabilities, services, and community resources.

Support organizational fundraising campaigns to help meet annual financial objectives.

Assist with event promotion and sponsor coordination.

Collaborate with the Development team to align outreach, advocacy, and storytelling with fundraising goals.

Additional duties as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in social work, nonprofit management, communications, education, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Minimum 4 years of experience in community outreach, nonprofit engagement, or a related role preferred.

Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families strongly preferred.

Strong public speaking, relationship-building, and presentation skills.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual meeting platforms.

Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends for events.

Reliable transportation for community travel within Southern Maryland and Anne Arundel County.

Must pass criminal background check mandated by the State of Maryland.
