The City of Garden Grove Community Services Department is now accepting online applications for the position of RECREATION SPECIALIST. Deadline to apply for this recruitment is Monday, March 16, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Responsibilities
Under general direction, Recreation Specialists provide support to staff on day-to-day program activities. Work hours and schedules vary according to program and participant needs. Recreation Specialist can be assigned to the following areas: Youth and Family Resource Centers; Senior Center; Community Meeting Center and Courtyard Center; Park Ambassador Program. Assist with program administration, lead activities, organize daily recreational activities for youth, lead children in games and arts and crafts, supervise children and teens during off-site excursions, register program participants, provide program support, set up and tear down events, and ensure safety and adherence to policies. Work hours approximate 20 hours per week at Youth and Family Resource Centers, Senior Center, and Community Meeting Center and Courtyard Center; positions may include evenings and weekends. This recruitment will establish an eligibility list to fill current and future vacancies within the next six months. Areas and Requirements
YOUTH AND FAMILY RESOURCE CENTERS: The Centers operate Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. with some evening hours, and Saturday and Sunday as needed. Positions: approximately 15–20 hours per week, flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends. Must be at least 18 years old. Bilingual fluency in Spanish is highly desirable. SENIOR CENTER: The Senior Center offers recreational and educational classes; HDM program, on-site lunch, and senior transportation; operates Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with some evenings/weekends. Recreation Specialists work year-round 15–20 hours per week with flexible schedule. COMMUNITY MEETING CENTER AND COURTYARD CENTER: Main rental facilities for events. Responsibilities include customer service, event setup/teardown, safety compliance, equipment maintenance, and minor cleaning. Must be able to move tables, chairs and furniture; connect AV equipment; work independently or in teams. Valid California class C driver's license required. PARK AMBASSADOR PROGRAM: Ensure safe use of facilities and fields, provide public assistance, assist in event setup/breakdown. Requires knowledge of park rules and ability to work independently or in a team. Hours approximately 15–20 per week; evenings/weekends; valid CA class C driver’s license. Other Requirements
All candidates must either (a) possess an Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate prior to employment, or (b) be able to take and pass the City-provided certificate course. Valid California Class C driver’s license and acceptable driving record may be required for some positions. An acceptable driving record has three or fewer DMV points in the past five years and no more than one DUI in the past ten years. Physical Requirements
The physical demands include speaking clearly, hearing, standing, walking, sitting, seeing small details, and lifting items weighing up to 50 lbs. Work Environment
