We are seeking an architectural designer to join Old Dominion University Facilities Management to work within the Design & Construction department. This individual will work under the Direction of University Renovations & Engineering and the Staff Architect to design and implement construction projects. The designer will also work with the Construction Project Managers to select finishes, coordinate design ideas and finish selections, and contribute ideas to the overall campus design standards.

Duties

Develop conceptual and detailed architectural designs using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, & Bluebeam

Act as Owner Representative on behalf of the university working with private design consulting firms such as Architectural, MEP and Structural firms.

Work under the Staff Architect to assist with needs on a daily basis such as verifying existing conditions, generating design documents, enforcing ADA standards on campus, and procuring furniture for users on campus.

Utilize Bluebeam or Revit to verify asbuilt documentation and assist the University Space Manager in confirming existing conditions

Collaborate with project teams to produce interior design layouts, graphic presentations, and 2D animations for client presentations.

Work with the University Signage Shop on design of various signage needs around campus.

Support project development through schematic design, material selection, and graphic design tasks.

Coordinate with engineers and contractors during construction phases to ensure design integrity.

Address incoming work orders from various buildings on campus through the campus work order system

3-4 years of experience working under an architect

Actively pursuing licensure by accruing AXP hours and taking AREs

Proficiency in AutoDesk Revit and Bluebeam

Strong knowledge of drafting standards, schematics, construction documentation, and system design.

Knowledge of building codes (VCC), construction processes, and Accessible design.

Ability to create compelling graphic designs and interior layouts with attention to detail.

Familiarity with MEP principles relevant to architectural projects.

Skills in 2D animation for dynamic presentations or visualizations.

Excellent communication skills for collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Experience with 3D modeling tools such as Rhino 3D, Grasshopper 3D, 3ds Max, and SketchUp considered a plus.

Knowledge of state permitting process and working with the Division of Engineering & Buildings (DEB)
