Part of the College of Engineering, the Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. It does this through its academic programs and educational programs designed for professionals. BTEC also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry and is actively involved in research programs, supported by various agencies, focused on topics of importance to the biomanufacturing industry.

Essential Job Duties BTEC is seeking a versatile and detail‑oriented Instructional Media Developer. This role serves as the technical and creative backbone for our faculty and staff, transforming complex scientific concepts into high‑quality digital media. Rather than instructing students directly, you will focus on the behind‑the‑scenes design, production, and systems management that power BTEC’s academic, marketing, and research portfolios. This is a permanent position that will report to BTEC’s manager of Educational Communications.

Academic Content Development & Support (30%)

Multimedia Production: Partner with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs/Professors) to film and edit video course materials and produce high‑quality audio.

LMS Architecture: Build and organize course components within Moodle, translating raw instructor content into polished digital modules.

Platform Migration: Lead the technical migration of course materials from Moodle to Canvas for the University’s upcoming platform transition.

Web‑Based Learning: Develop and maintain interactive web elements specifically designed to enhance the student learning experience.

Develop and maintain digital and print presentations for BTEC operations.

Support brand management throughout visuals in the BTEC website and print collateral. BTEC’s brand is built on NC State University’s identity guidelines.

Communications & Marketing Support (30%)

Visual Assets: Capture professional photography of BTEC events, labs, and courses to be used across all platforms.

Archive Management: Organize and curate BTEC’s extensive photo and video libraries for easy access by the Communications team.

Webmaster Duties: Manage the BTEC WordPress site and associated web properties, ensuring technical health and content accuracy.

Operations & Systems Maintenance (30%)

Data & Access Management: Administer access to BTEC’s Google Shared Drive, managing storage limits, folder hierarchy, and data redundancy.

Instructional Graphic Design: Create and maintain professional digital and print presentations for center operations.

Brand Stewardship: Ensure all visuals across the BTEC website and print collateral align with NC State University’s identity guidelines.

Digital Accessibility: Guarantee all content is effective by providing closed‑captioning and audio descriptions. Maintain BTEC materials in accordance with WCAG 2.1, Level AA standards.

Support management of the Google Shared Drive such as managing storage limits and redundancy.

Research Media Support (10%)

Research Visualization: Work closely with researchers to develop video and audio materials that communicate their findings effectively.

Project Infrastructure: Manage web‑based elements and dedicated Moodle/Canvas sites used specifically for BTEC research projects and archival purposes.

Other Responsibilities

Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the organization and evolving priorities.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Art, Design, Communications, Computer Science, or related discipline with strong oral and written communication skills, strong web development background, and the ability to interact easily with others.

Required degree must be completed prior to start date.

Other Required Qualifications

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and particularly the ability to present information clearly and concisely in both oral and written form.

Good facilitation, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills.

Well‑developed attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as a team member.

Experience working with multiple stakeholders on a single project.

Flexibility to navigate changing work landscape.

Highly motivated and self‑driven.

Preferred Qualifications

A portfolio that demonstrates mastery of photography and design.

Examples of video projects.

Experience with LAMP‑stack web development.

Fluency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects).

3D development using Cinema 4D or Blender, ideally with Unity experience.

Experience with NC State REPORTER and Canvas.

SEO experience.

Ability to troubleshoot technologies such as classroom equipment, PCs and Apple computers.

Comfort working in a STEM environment.

Simulation development using additional coding languages, such Python and using tools such as Visual Studio and Docker.

Web distribution using AWS or Google Cloud.

XR (ARVR) development.

Staying current with ethical usage of AI.
