Peterson Dental Laboratory is seeking a detail‑oriented, analytical, and proactive Purchasing Agent to oversee purchasing, inventory control, and cost optimization across our production departments.
This role is critical to ensuring the right materials are in the right place at the right time — while actively driving cost savings, vendor accountability, and inventory efficiency.
We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment and understands that purchasing is both operational and strategic.
Position Overview The Purchasing Agent will manage all aspects of inventory procurement, issuing, and vendor coordination. This position works closely with the Production Manager and Controller to maintain optimal inventory levels, reduce waste, improve margins, and strengthen supplier relationships.
Key Responsibilities Inventory Management
Monitor and maintain appropriate inventory levels
Distribute weekly issuance of materials to production
Conduct inventory audits and cycle counts monthly and annually
Identify overstock, understock, and slow‑moving items
Implement systems to improve tracking and accuracy
Purchasing & Vendor Management
Source and purchase dental lab materials, supplies, and some equipment
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with vendors
Develop and maintain vendor relationships
Identify alternative suppliers for cost and quality optimization
Ensure timely ordering to prevent production disruptions
Cost Control & Optimization
Analyze material usage trends and work with Operations manager to reduce
Identify opportunities for bulk purchasing and savings
Track price fluctuations and manage vendor increases
Partner with Accounting to improve gross margin through material cost control
Reporting & Systems
Maintain accurate purchasing records in inventory systems
Generate inventory and purchasing reports
Work cross‑functionally with accounting and operations
Support monthly inventory reconciliation and cost reviews
Qualifications
3+ years experience in purchasing, inventory management, or supply chain (manufacturing environment preferred)
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Experience with inventory management software or ERP systems
Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, analysis, reporting)
Detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently and hold vendors accountable
Negotiation experience preferred
