The Production Packaging Manager is responsible for overseeing all packaging operations within the production lifecycle, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, quality, compliance, and on-time delivery. This role manages packaging development, execution, vendor coordination, cost control, and sustainability initiatives while collaborating cross-functionally with Production, Sourcing, Design, Compliance, Logistics, and Sales. The ideal candidate combines strong operational leadership with packaging expertise, process optimization skills, and a commitment to quality and sustainable practices. Responsibilities
Packaging Operations & Execution
Oversee packaging processes from development through final production. Ensure packaging specifications align with product requirements, retail standards, and compliance regulations. Identify and resolve packaging-related production issues proactively. Communicate clearly with overseas factories and production partners to ensure execution accuracy. Source and manage relationships with packaging suppliers. Monitor vendor performance and ensure quality and compliance standards are met. Evaluate new suppliers and materials to improve efficiency and sustainability. Analyze packaging costs and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality. Optimize packaging for freight efficiency and reduced waste. Sustainability & Compliance
Partner with leadership to implement sustainable packaging solutions (recycled materials, reduced plastics, FSC-certified paper, etc.). Ensure all packaging meets regulatory requirements, retailer guidelines, and labeling standards. Stay current on global packaging compliance regulations. Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, or related field preferred. 5–8+ years of experience in production packaging within apparel, consumer goods, or retail industries. Strong knowledge of packaging materials, testing, compliance, and global sourcing. Experience working with overseas factories. Proven ability to manage multiple timelines and high-volume production cycles. Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Office (Excel required). Strong negotiation and vendor management skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities. The salary range for this New York based role is $95,000 to $110,000. Base salaries are determined during the interview process by evaluating a candidate’s experience, skills, and alignment with internal peers, as well as the scope and responsibilities of the position.
