
Structural Steel Erection Estimator
GPAC is seeking a knowledgeable Structural Steel Erection Estimator for immediate consideration. GPAC's client is a full service, turn‑key construction company specializing in all erection‑oriented projects. They specialize in various commercial and industrial complex steel structures.
Duties
Review of construction documents (plans and specifications)
Making a material take‑off, calculating labor and material costs to develop an estimate and bid proposal
Work the entire life cycle of a bid from bid invitation to finalizing bid proposal for submission to customer
Execute take‑offs of construction documents
Possess a general understanding of metals erection phases and time units for various erection phases
Responsibilities
Understand the project and its requirements
Determine key variables for cost and other estimates
Conduct research to obtain data on labor costs, materials, production times, etc.
Use software for data analysis, forecasting and budgeting
Perform risk analysis
Create and submit estimate reports or bids to appropriate persons (project managers, clients, bidding competitions, etc.)
Build relationships with key vendors (subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, etc.)
Provide consultation on planning (schedules, manpower needs, etc.)
Explore documentation to gain a deeper understanding of the project requirements
Select, measure and track important metrics
Prepare relevant and reliable forecasts
Create and present reports to upper management
Analyze and evaluate offers
Build and maintain long‑term relationships with key vendors
Read blueprints and analyze all other applicable documents in order to prepare estimates
Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and architects during estimate creation to ensure overall accuracy
Act as the final say in the calculation and adjustment of estimates
Present estimates to clients in a timely and polite manner
Recommend cost‑reduction options for the company
Assist sales team in final project preparation transactions
Maintain thorough records of all project documentation including estimates, sales receipts, and project completion documentation
Required Qualifications And Skills
Proficient with design drawings, architectural & structural drawings, and project specs
Strong analytical abilities
Proficient in mathematical skills
Working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft Word, and QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Solutions
Must have experience with On Screen Take Off (OST)
Understanding of construction documents, change orders, and requests for information (RFIs)
